Dust Moto

1 min battery swap 👍

i just saw that hahaha its seems pretty good... 7/8 size, 42hp i think he said... mass production coming just before next summer. For me a good price can be 7.990/8.990$ max

talking about looks, personally is the best looking electric dirt bike after the Varg

Retail price is $10 950.

4.4 kWh and 42 hp, I can see Yamaha YE-01 could be close to that

mmm... nice, so $10.950 is €9.664. I can see it working... is an MX bike, but it falls short of being a true MX. On many tracks, it's going to lack power and overall performance. That doesn't mean it's not a super fun bike, though.
I suppose it's not designed for pros either; all other riders will enjoy this platform immensely.
I think it would be a very good candidate for enduro aswell: lighter than the Varg, with sufficient power, it has to be super fun. With 4.4kwh is not going to last a lot on MX but should be good.
Let's assume they used cells very similar to the Molicel P45B with 242Wh/kg, that gives me a calculation of about 18kg of battery for 4.4kW (without the case, cables etc, just pure cells), that is 10kg less than the Varg.

I know this an old thread I have been following dust moto since they started and at 42 hp and 220ish pounds and just a tad smaller than a full size bike it checks the boxes for many including myself .

I like the lighter weight and the swappable battery.
I paid the $100 refundable deposit last month after a particularly difficult ride when I struggled to pick up my Varg.
I am 66 years old, and my Varg outweighs me by about 100 pounds.
Looks like it's about 2/3 the HP, and 2/3 the battery kwh, so I/m hoping for similar range.

Unfortunately, now Dust lists the Hightail weight as 235lb on the website (with only 4.4kWh battery).

Varg is only 240lb with 6.5kWh on my trail-ridden MX 1.0 and 7.2kWh on new MX (with mx or enduro suspension optioned) with the same 240lb curb weight.

Shorter suspension and overall height will make it easier to pick up, though. Similar to how heavy short trailbikes like Yamaha tt230r or Honda crf230f are easier to pick up compared to taller, but lighter, 450 mx and enduro bikes.

Sometimes I think a slightly smaller bike, like the Dust, would be nice and a maybe touch easier to ride in the very gnarly single track, but then I wonder if giving up the ground clearance and suspension travel would be worth it. I'm only 6', but
having the extra cockpit room, over a smaller bike, is nice too.

I do love the Dust and would maybe give it a try even though it is only 5lb lighter (should be lighter in my opinion) but in the end, the much smaller battery (and presumably shorter range) is the deal breaker for my use case. Unless they somehow get the efficiency so great that I get the same 45 to 50 miles of range as my 6.5kWh Varg in the terrain I ride.

I agree with the cockpit point, I’m on the taller side. All depends on the riding. Mostly what I’m doing on an electric bike that’s less of an issue

Bottom line though, I’ll believe what they both weigh when I weigh them myself! 😅

Ha. Exactly. And, as we've all discovered with all bikes, sometime the feel is very different than what the spec sheet suggests. Cockpit feel/room can vary a lot based on orientation, not just height between seat and pegs, weight feels different depending g on center of gravity and overall height, etc.

Will be fun to throw a leg over a Dust to see for myself before I replace my Varg in a year or two. Currently I'm assuming for a Varg MX 1.2 with enduro suspension, but will be fun to see what all is available then as I'm completely open to go with another brand.

Maybe by then, some dirtbike company will use the new Donut Lab brand solid state batteries and we'll shave off 10lbs while adding 20 miles of range. Boom!

Where did you see 235 lbs?
Here is what I see:

Also, the Varg was originally supposed to be 240 back in 2021 when I put my deposit in.
But before they shipped any they gained 20 lbs, now 260 with the red BS tubes, and after putting tubliss in the back, a real tube in the front and handguards, mine weighs 276

Very weird that the Dust weighs 235 lbs. Hope it's a mistake as the low weight of the bike is (was) the main selling point for me.

I agree! Vargs are 260 not 240, and I'm waiting to see where @Chadx saw that 235, see my post #54

EDIT: I see it now here, so there is some discrepancy. I will cancel if the 235 is correct, in the meantime, I will try to contact them and find out.

Ha. Sorry guys. I totally lost my mind. I knew the Varg is 260lb. Lapse of sanity earlier. Ah well. I'll leave my mistake rather than clean it up. Ha.

As for the Hightail, just scroll down the main page where it pops up the specs. Below is screen shot.

So 25 pounds more for the Varg which is a good difference. Still feels like the Hightail should be lighter than 235 especially wish such a small battery.
So, if they really have the Hightail done at 220lb, now that is a big spread
