    lighter-feeling front end

After I took my steering stem out of the bottom triple clamp, rotated it 180°, and reinstalled it, the steering stem and fork-tube centerlines were 4mm closer together, but the steering-stem centerline had not changed relative to the frame. This means the front-end steering and rotating mass -...

    lighter-feeling front end

When I first started riding electric in the summer of 2014, I was a little disappointed at how heavy the front end felt as compared to my ICE dirt bikes. I tried a number of things and kept the ones that worked, ending up with a bike that popped the front up easily under 25mph even when...

    Wider rims

I don't feel that at all. What I DO notice is better acceleration & traction in all directions plus a slightly lighter-feeling front end, and being more in-control of the bike. I'm very much a lighter-is-better kinda guy, but this small amount of added weight was a very acceptable trade-off...

    Wider rims

Yes! but good luck finding 36-spoke Honda-style rims wider than 2.50, at least this side of the pond. Excel certainly doesn't have them, don't think Warp 9 does either. The MX-31 looks so much more 'normal' on the wider rim, as if it was a 100/100-18 tire stretched sideways; on the narrow rim...

    Wider rims

    Here's a tire-size-vs-rim-size chart - had no idea there was a 140/70-21 tire :)

    Wider rims

Philip - perhaps the wider Emgo front lock might work better on the stock Alta 21" wheel? Just throwing this out there in case anyone wants to try the M59 but is worried about slippage. The oversize locks fit the bigger rims better than the OEM locks fit the OEM rims, with more grip area and...

    Wider rims

My stock rim widths were 2.15" rear, 1.60" front. Yes, the wider rims need wider locks; I used Emgo 16-26010 (front) and 16-26080 (rear) units, which are a little heavy but work well. I like the MX32 front tire too.

    Wider rims

My MXR now has 18 x 2.50 and 21 x 1.85 Warp 9 rims, with a 19 x 2.50 wheel waiting on a tire. I've had 3 rides on the bike after the swap (new tires too, NOS Dunlop MX-31 120/90-18 and Bridgestone M59 80/100-21). Conditions were hardpack / rooty - rocky trails / loam / sandy loose dirt, most...

    Front brake cotter pins MIA

Just a heads-up - both my front brake caliper's right-angle cotter pins (Brembo p/n 5454232) were gone, and the pad-retaining pin was barely hanging on with @ 2mm engagement. :( The first time I removed these things I didn't like how easy they came off, I'll use straight bend-type cotter pins...

    The Storm Bee is out!

Absolutely - this is exactly why I only use map 4, to minimize the limiting effect. Guess I'm just hopelessly old-school, but I prefer being the only control entity in the 'loop'. :)

    Mystery Hobbs Meter

No... but I'd want them to work when I got home. If I had a 'smart house' that detected nothing turned on (connected) in my living room, I wouldn't want it to throw the living room breaker, forcing me to re-set it before turning on lights or the TV. :)

    The Storm Bee is out!

I think metallic88 is referring to the throttle map curve (firmware), which on my Alta is significantly different in map 4, especially below 1/2 throttle (which is why I only use map 4, even in tight woods). I'd personally prefer a straight-line throttle response (i.e., 25% rotation = 25%...

Thinking about getting another e-dirt bike: Which One?

Thanks for the heads-up - it's great to finally get a ride review on these things. I figured the weight was really high, otherwise they would've included it with the other specs.

Thinking about getting another e-dirt bike: Which One?

    Apparently Tacita has a Miami dealer now. Still no weight specs, but li-po battery / 5-speed w/clutch / 4.5kWh qualifying battery / 55kW motor; it's definitely different. @ $19K though. :(

    AJ Catanzaro

Excellent!! AJ's audio track during riding sounded a lot like my 1st 20 Alta rides. I remember thinking "this bike can't be THAT much faster than anything I've ever ridden, it's gotta be me!", but after watching this video I feel a bit better. :) Any major mfrs with electric bikes in the pipe...

    Vin Id

Agreed, but a) most people here cannot do that b) it's unclear the Erzberg FW has that update, and c) modifying any MC component that might get one seriously injured during their normal riding regimen is IMHO a good idea if other options are not available, especially if it's an extremely...

It seems to me the Hirschmann throttle's reverse-rotation spring could be coated with epoxy on the accessible side to coil-bind it, ending the possibility of an I.T. fault on that bike during normal riding, Erzberg FW or no. Hirschmann might have a field fix for it too, perhaps a rigid insert...

    Tesla Battery

What I'd really like to see is a 225-235 lb bike with MXR performance/range and a lighter-feeling front end. A sustainable battery/BMS configuration using approx. the Alta case dimensions would also be a huge plus going forward.

    Repeating click noise under power

+1. I've got the OEM Regina with 2 D.I.D. 520NZ master links and NZ link between, there's a pretty loud click each revolution. I'd probably never have noticed on an ICE bike. :)
