Here are a few pictures from our first get together of the Northeast Alta Owners. @Matt was a very gracious host and offered his families beautiful New York property for the occasion. Fantastic secluded setting with a nice practice track to boot! Even some woods with a few single track trails...
One negative to riding with a group of Altas that I "thought" of. Say hypothetically you should be the slowest in a group of say... 5 Altas. Lets say you are riding in trail system and you come to a fork in the road and you don't know which way the rest of the group went... you stop to listen...
Went good! Had 5 Alta’s together, rode Tall Pines and Matt’s track, did a battery workshop in between, had a good time and laid the ground work for future get togethers.
Pictures and videos to come!
There are plenty of 2018’s within that range that are just fine, it’s just that anything within that range was prior to them realizing there was an occasional problem happening with the wirebonding process that wasn’t being immediately caught.
Here’s an interesting build co-op with our own @ElectroBraap and @Mark911 converting a Honda Grom to Alta power.
Awesome job guys! Can’t wait to see the end product!
I believe they are in France at Acerbis headquarters... I thought that’s what was stated in another discussion. I think there may be some dialogue going on currently in that area initiated by @Alta05 .
Believe me, we’ve been thinking hard about long term battery service. I think we will have options by the time it becomes a real problem IMO. Surprisingly enough it seems this stupid plastic is one of the harder obstacles to overcome right now. It’s ridiculous and sad that the molds are out...
I like that analogy. I would imagine that in the case of throwing a dirt bike down into a berm/turn having the CG higher would work to your advantage to a certain degree. I could be looking at it wrong though!
Good discussion!
I think the EX/EXR mask is a Polisport Halo. Front fender, number plate and fork guards are all off other OEM’s. Shrouds, side number plates, rear fender and subframe are our problem child’s.
I can confirm that is the correct replacement for the MX/MXR EX/EXR, I’m not 100% sure if the SM uses the same lever. Hopefully someone else can confirm or deny that.
As long as the whole suspension is lowered together the same amount, the steering angle will remain the same so it should feel identical in that respect.
The short answer is we still don’t have a proven solution for code 36 batteries.
Here are the things to keep in mind;
- All but roughly the last 50 or so 2018’s built are suspect.
- New 2018’s in the affected range are a risky proposition.
- Current firmware doesn’t mean you are in the clear...
For future reference, the exact replacement desiccant bags used in the bottom cover of our battery packs are available from McMaster-Carr under part number 2189K17 (5 pack). The bottom cover and retainer is designed for this specific size and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to put a new one in if you...
