I have a 2018 MXR for sale - bike has 40 hours and 600 miles on it. One module in the R pack is faulty so the battery pack will need to be repaired or replaced - before that issue developed the bike was flawless! I have photos of the Alta Multi Tool data showing the failed module and can text those to anyone who’s intersted in the bike.

Because of the pack fault I have no idea what it’s worth - please message me with an offer!

I’m in Raleigh NC but happy to help coordinate shipping.

The Vin is #341
Comes with 110v standard charger
Skid Plate and Rear Shark Fin.
Acerbis Front Disk Guard.
Tusk High Screw Footpegs.
Pro Taper High Bend Bars.
Left Hand Rear Brake

Any questions please let me know - I plan on washing it tomorrow and will text photos to anyone who’s interested

What is the gist of the module malfunction. Is bike completely inoperable?
I first noticed a problem when I charged the bike and after 15 mins it was saying fully charged, but the display was only showing 2 bars. I then borrowed a multi tool setup and discovered a problem with one of the modules (other modules are good). Since then I can't get the battery to charge so if I turn the key it shuts down within 10 seconds or so.

I have an EXR as well which is why I'm considering selling the MXR rather than keeping hold of it and waiting to find a replacement module or pack

How did you get the multi tool to show graph if the bike shuts down in 10 seconds?

Can you post the picture of the battery graph?

I must have used up the last bar of battery doing the diagnostics with multi tool - I have all the screenshots (including updates I was trying to run). I can text them if you PM me your number.

there are people who can help you with this. Have you tried mark911? There are also many other battery technicians out there to consider. I find it hard to believe there are so many ev and battery engineers out there and someone can’t replace a few bad cells or a module.

If Rashid can do that, that would be amazing. I hope I never need it, but I will definitely keep him in mind. Thank you Rashid!!!

You can backfeed 12VDC into the headlight connection to keep the module on indefinitely. Mine had an identical problem (2019 EXR). My 0 module got corroded and killed some of the cells so I had to get a replacement module.

@ otbnc I'm in Virginia and come down to Raleigh pretty often. I don't know if I can offer much help with your bike, but I'll see what I can do.

Is this a software issue with the modules, or is it another problem? There are a lot of battery manufacturers out there, if one were to make modules, would it have a issue with our software or is that not a thing?

Definitely are battery manufacturers (I work for one....) but the biggest issues are:

1. Cells...its atrocious now to find good cells. Too many cells on the market now are either B grade cells or have shitty resistance values. That means finding Murata VTC6 cells is a turkey shoot especially when Murata does not like working with anyone any more...(unless you have deeeep pockets)

2. BMS - the genealogy of the Alta battery system would require some sort of communication between a "replacement" module that does not have the same BMS chip/connections.

Yes, that was my concern. If we replaced the cells or modules, would it communicate or would we need to change something software or BMS related. One of the guys on an Alta page and possibly one of our members wrote the software for the BMS system. Maybe he could help us with that? Probably a good chance you already know him.
