I had some 3/4" pipe insulation foam leftover from a project and made a rock guard pad for the readout. I've been the victim of a few good size rocks over the years easily big enough to damage the readout so I spent 5 minutes with a knife and made a protector for it. It fits tight enough by itself and stays in place pretty good so far.
