Hows it going all!!

So iv owned my varg now for 14 months, some of you on here will recognize my name as i have a fair few issues with this bike since owning it. Anyway, long story short, i still have the bike but its up for sale so i can get enough funds to buy a enduro model. Lost faith in this bike but i absolutely love the varg and i will get lots more use out of a road legal version.

Anyway - had my bike up for sale for a few weeks, a guy messaged me and said he wanted to buy it but he couldnt collect, he asked if i would consider delivering it. Iv been around motocross all my life, iv bought and sold hundreds of bikes and i have never delivered a bike to a buyer but on this occasion i was actually working not far from Leeds UK so i agreed to take the bike to work with me on the back of my pick up and then stop by this guys house drop it off, deal done...... so i thought

I got to the post code/address he gave me, looked around and found the neighborhood looked half decent, new build houses, nice cars in the drive so i gave my self a bit of confidence that this was legitimate. Guy was stood on the corner of what i assumed was his house. got out, shook his hand and said "well here it is" he insisted that he wanted to see the bike work before he transferred me £9k+ which is understandable so as a precaution i said i would ride it up the road as proof it works. when i came back to my truck he wanted to have a go. i said not until you transfer the money as you can now see the bike is good. He argued a little but proceeded to open his banking app and pay me the money. Here in the UK there is a bank called Metro, i dont know many people who use it but this guy banked with them. Alarm bells in my head were ringing. Anwway he opened the app , showed me the money going out and then i sat on the bike and waitied for my phone to ping with the money. It never did. He called his bank, they answered, asked him all the security questions that you would normally get asked "my voice is my password, account numbers etc etc" all seemed legitimate, His bank then said it can take up to 2 hours to go through. To my annoyance i then sat and waited 2 hours, still didnt go into my account called the bank again they said it can take up to 24hrs. By this point i was getting agitated, guy buying the bike was getting heated and i was left in a position where this guy had just transfered £9k , it had gone out of his account but hadnt gone into mine. I didnt want to leave with out the bike for obvious reasons, he didnt want me to leave as he'd paid the money to me. I came up with a solution that i would pull the back wheel from the bike and give him the stark phone. I would return from work the following day and deliver the bike. He took the phone and waited in his car whilst i strapped the bike back on my truck. as i was strapping the bike down, the police came round the corner and all 6 of the guys who were with him , including him ran away. I had a long chat with the police about what had happened and they told me that i was a very lucky man. usually they wack you around the back of the head, knock you out and steal the bike.

In the process of giving this Ass hole the stark phone he changed the pin number. its been 2 weeks since this incident happened i pulled the bike out of the garage today to ride it and now i cant get on the dash board. Has anyone got any ideas on how to reset this phone. Iv gone down the route of the youtube videos with android devices to factory reset by holding the power and volume down button but it seems the stark phone doesnt have the option to factory reset from start up menu. Iv contacted stark and now waiting for them to get back to me. I swear this bike is cursed .....

Anyway i thought it would be worth sharing my bad experience so non of you make the same mistake as i did. I thought i was pretty knowledgeable about scams but this one really had my eyes out.

Wow! Sounds terrible!
Hard to read but not the worst case!
Wish you all the best!
You should use "real" existing money next time;-)

Sorry to hear that.
Standard advice is to meet in a public place not chosen by the buyer and if possible arrange for payment directly at the buyer's bank office. If the buyer only has an online bank I would personally not take cash. In France we have something called "chèque de banque" (bank draft?) which is harder to counterfeit than a regular check, then you can call the bank to see if it's legit since it has been signed and certified by the bank.
All in all, could have been much worse for you, kinda lucky escape, hopefully you'll get it working in a few days.

Wow. Crazy story. Seems like you were pretty switched on to not let them just get on and ride it. You even came up with a good compromise. I would have 100 percent been scammed in that situation.

Exactly. Those situations are usually pretty uncomfortable and hard to handle when you find yourself involved; they look easier from outside. Typically those guys know many ways to fool you.
