I have seen a lot of unanswered questions about the difference between the MX and the EX. After watching about 4 hours of interviews with Anton Wass, here is what I heard:

Stark Varg MX Vs EX
  • EX is Street Legal in most US states
  • EX has Different Battery Connectors not compatible with MX
  • 20% more range, higher capacity more efficient (Deeper Discharge) Cells
  • More efficient motor (software)
  • DOT tires are heavier
  • 4th Gen Power Tubes aren’t complete junk
  • Kickstand not included in weight of MX but is on the EX
  • Longer Bracket for Kickstand
  • DOT Rims
  • Lights, Horn, Blinkers
  • Integrated Map Switch for light, blinkers, horn and low beam/high beam
  • Brake light switches on master cylinders
  • Slightly less fork travel
  • Slightly lower Seat Height (even though spec sheet says it’s higher)
  • More vertical and horizontal frame compliance (flex)
  • Same Frame Geometry
  • Improved Swing Arm (Lighter and more flex) with more tire clearance
  • Improved Chain Guide
  • Higher torque due to sprocket ratio
  • Super moto and smaller size bikes on the horizon
  • EX has an "Arkenstone" Phone (developed by Stark) and new software that allows:
  • GPS Mapping
  • Adjustable Power Curve
  • Locks the Bike with PIN if desired

EX can be legally ridden with only and A1 license (for motorcycles up to 11 kW (15 hp) and 125cc). In some countries driver licence will automatically grant you A1 license (some require 1 day training).

Yes peak power is 80 hp but what matters for the regulations is continuous power, rated at 12 hp for the Varg EX. So Varg EX is legally a "125" with 80 hp on tap.

Crazy right. I think we'll see this type of regulation for electric bikes change over time. It means 16 year olds can ride 80HP bikes here in Norway on the streets.
Norway also give government support to people buying electric bikes here in Norway if they're registered. 11000 Nok back for A1, 25000 back for A2 or higher. So part of me wishes they classed them in A2. But if mines gets registered as A1, it will have higher resale when they inevitably change the registration rules here later.

Yeah I couldn't believe that the peak power to continuous power was so high at 6.66 to 1, it's typically more 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 (for Zeros for instance).

Crazy but I think it would take more than 1 bike with modest sales (compared to 125 market) to change national or EU laws. Obviously Zero motorcycles sales over years did not move the needle, I fully expect Varg EX sales to outclass them but likely not really noticeable for the lawmakers either.

I can see the risk, 16 years old on 80 hp is not good news. First and foremost for themselves but ultimately it's up to the parents to do their job, it's not like kids would buy a 12k bike all by themselves.

Lots of well off kids here in Norway with that kind of money. The 125 market is high demand for that reason. Not sure how much their parents are or aren't involved but I often see beat up 125's with loads of hours resell for more than 250's/300's

In additon, here in Norway the EX costs 129000 nok because of less tax on electric vehicles. Then with an 11000 rebate the end price ends up being 118,000NOK or 10,000 Euro.

Its 3900 Euro cheaper to buy and register the EX in Norway.
I did the calculation for pounds too, 3600 pounds cheaper. That's a big difference.

(edit: fixed calculation to compare 80hp models)

My sreet legal Alta Redshift EX is an A2 (125cc, from age 16) Road licensed.

A 16 years old boy can ride one of the more powerful bikes to school...

Where did you hear that the phone can lock the bike with a pin? I directly asked this question and my rep said there is no plan for that with the EX.
