I want to share an update on my Alta that was stolen on Black Friday.
I was inside a store and I took longer than usual, and when I came out the bike was gone. I don't have a wheel lock or anything because I only leave it out once in a while for a short time. I always knew there was a risk of this happening but it is what it is.
I knew right away that it was probably being pushed down the sidewalk by someone and I decided it would be rude of me if I didn't go introduce myself.
I couldn't find them, but I posted a stolen bike thread on here and called PD right away. The officer from Pleasant Hill who responded was orders of magnitude more helpful than I expected. I'm used to SF cops in the TL neighborhood who never get a break. He quickly took my info and went to look for the bike right away.
24 hours later, they found the bike nearby in Concord with a dead battery and a busted ignition. It started up, and now it has a full charge, but I have not fixed the ignition.
Concord PD knew about the stolen bike because of the email sent by the officer in Pleasant Hill. Everyone was top-notch.
I then came back to the forum to find that someone saw my post and saw the bike. He posted several pictures and notified the police as well. What a surprise, homeless people rolled it down the street and into the encampment. I'm typing this on the fly and I can't find his username but he is a legend.
I have to replace the ignition and I can't find one that will plug into the existing three-prong plug. Maybe I have to buy one with the wrong plug and affix the right correct one? Any ideas are appreciated because the only thing I know about electricity is that it hurts.
