Subscription option in Europe

I want to warn people who have the Pro subscription about what has been happening to me for a few weeks and what could potentially happen to them.
The topic is the use of a VISA, Mastercard... credit cards secured with the system required by the European Union (3D Secure) at all banks for payments
Below are the emails exchanged with Stark, sometimes in spanish (I switched in this language to make communication easier)
They asked me to change my credit card but in France all my banks are using 3D Secure and my bank advisors ( BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole...) confirmed this european "rule" to apply !
Last communication from Stark, as you can see below, is wait & see ! be patient and at the moment i cannot use options PRO

Conclusion : take care when your credit card will be obsolete and if you'll must update it

Seems like I've run into a similar issue. Added my new credit card to my Stark account and now they say they can't charge to this card and my subscription will be canceled. Were you ever be able to resolve the problem?

The last answer received from Stark (November 7th) :
Hola Joaquin,
Lamentamos comunicarles que nuestro equipo nos ha informado que, debido a complicaciones bancarias, no prevén solucionar este problema en al menos un mes.
Best regards,

Stark Future Team
It means that we have to wait 1 month (minimum), so no any solution before 8th of december. I'm keep in touch with them and I will follow up with them mid-December if no response by then
At the moment, i'm using standard mode with my Stark EX

Not a great answer from Stark, but then it might save me some money in the future! If so many can live without pro mode I might as well ...

Genuine question for those who do pay for pro. Why?

I honestly can't see the value... so could someone explain their rationale?

I was using the Pro version to customize my power/regeneration curves; control with GPX maps, navigation through trails, route saving. Ability to activate and cancel the subscription as needed.

I found the advanced power curves to be key to increase my confidence when riding the bike - plain and simple.

How exactly?

Here is a little update, but let's start with a chronological recap first:

  • I delete the old cc info in my Stark account and added the new cc which includes a verification on your phone according to the new 3D secure standards - all went smoothly.
  • a few days later I got an e-mail notification from Stark that my subscription payment had failed.
  • wrote an e-mail to Stark support, but never got an answer.
  • re-added to old cc to my account to keep my subscription alive until I could resolve the issue as there still was no answer from Stark support.
  • today I got another e-mail notification from Stark that my subscription payment had failed.
  • to make sure the new cc was actually working I ordered some Stark parts and it went without a problem; even didn't require a confirmation on my phone which is kind of odd, but charge info shows up on my new cc account.
That leaves me with a few possible scenarios.

#1: Since payment failed again even with the old, previously working, cc added it might be possible that before the automatic subscription payment can be made you have to make at least one regular payment like for spare parts. We will see if that works out.
#2: There is a quarantine timespan after adding a new cc before automated payments can be made. See answer above "wait for a month". Don't think that is likely.
#3: I have to go into my account on my Arkenstone (which is turned off currently) and do the subscription payment options from there. I'll have a look at that tomorrow.

To summarize my exchanges with Stark :
This problem concerns the "3D Secure" security system for credit cards used during subscriptions.
I had no issues purchasing protection for the Arkenstone on the Stark website because no "secure" request was activated by my credit card in that case. However, the Stark subscription, which goes through banking software "STRIPE" (Stark information), is not yet able to accommodate the 3D Secure protection recommended by European banks for credit cards.
Following this information, which I sent to Stark, their response was that their bank needs at least a month to integrate this new parameter, hence the mid-December timeline at best.

What happens to the pro maps when the subscription is interrupted?

Well, the bad news is that my subscription got cancelnd without me being able to do anything about it.

The good news though is that my advanced power modes are still active :ricky: Obviously I can't access the "advanced" menu and make any changes, but it seems that as long I don't activate the standard modes (saving one) I'll be fine. That would be really great news as I have my advanced power modes dialed and would save the money for the subscription as well. Hope it stays that way.
