General Suspension on the EX

Well, the KTM/WP comp adjuster which I assume you have plenty of riding experience with didn't change (except for the valving) way longer than that. The KYB triple HSC adjuster is not all bad, it is actually a true high speed only adjuster while the WP and KYB dual adjusters influence much lower shaft speeds as well. This can be good and bad depending on the whole package.

Are you speaking of the traxx shock? No experience with that one. I wouldn't say it's all bad but for me it wasn't all good either.

Are you speaking of the traxx shock?
No, with "dual" I mean two adjustments (LSC, HSC) on one adjuster body vs the triple (LSC, HSC, LSR) KYB. The WP Traxx or now SuperTrax/Pro shocks double single adjusters are identical in function to the single dual adjusters of the stock WP shock. Confused now ;)

Yes but I don't pay much attention to the stock KTM shock. Fades in 20 min anyway at least on the PDS.

It seems there is a worldwide shortage of 56N/mm shock springs.
Stark doesn't have it right now either.

Will 58N/mm be too stiff for 72kg+13kg=85kg rider and gear?
Low-ish average speed ≈20km/h, never higher than 60km/h. Hardpack, rocky hills.

I'm looking at this and this spring rates for the Varg MX, but with a bit of squint one can read them to say whatever one wants.

When I ordered my EX I ordered the medium springs since my weight is 195. I live and ride in the SW part of the USA so my riding is in Colorado and AZ. We have to carry at least 100oz of water on our rides. I quickly discovered the medium springs were way too soft for my 35 extra lbs of gear and water. So I contacted Kevin at Stillwell Performance. The rear shock always felt dead to me and Kevin put the shock on his dyno and discovered one of the adjusters of the three on the shock did little to nothing that affected the shock. Forks are typical KYB, acceptable, but can be made much better when converted to SSS. Anyway I tested his set up yesterday and I was amazed at how much better the Stark can be made, I went up to 47kg springs in the front and a 57.5 spring on the rear. Most people I've seen on Starks are under sprung and are riding in the mid stroke of the shock and fork and getting a harsh ride plus if you're trying to get the shock dialed all I can say is good luck. This bike now can charge in the rocks, way more stable in the sand, turns on a dime and doesn't kick your butt to ride fast. I highly recommend you contact Kevin at Stillwell Performance and get all the performance you paid for with this great bike/

@markanddona,
I must thank you for bringing this up.
I've been a fool to suffer and doubt the bike for almost 30h with the incorrect springs.

I replaced the Stark "Soft" springs (4.6 / 54Nm although there are no markings on them) with the S-Tech 4.8Nm for the forks and 56Nm for the shock and the transformation was immediate. This was done on hope and a prayer and every aspect of the bike is now improved. Even the power delivery is sharper since the bike isn't sitting so low and will now hop almost like a 2T.
Recommended sag setting (40 / 110mm) came right away while the 54 spring required a lot of preload.

I only did one ride without any other adjustments and every lap was a new record by a large margin and without pushing for it.

I now believe that with optimally tuned suspension and (hopefully) future improvements with traction control the potential of the Varg is infinite.

It's an amazing bike once sprung correctly and valved for you.

How much do you weigh though? It sounds like it might have been a mistake to get soft springs to begin with. From what i've seen on this forum and facebook, people are buying softer springs than needed for their weight thinking it will give a "softer ride"

I weigh 72kg and wear 12kg of gear and have 1kg 'tank bag' on the bike totalling: 85kg.

Getting the bike with the 'Soft' springs was a huge mistake and it was made by the dealer. He lied about it when challenged and had the Stark change the specification of the bike from 'Soft' to 'Medium' on their website. Later, he admitted the error and offered to get me the correct springs in a few months when they become available, and I was to send him my used springs to offset his expenses.

Sorry for the rant but I still fume when I think about it.

I see, yea that's shitty. Weird that Stark would change the specification on the site for a dealer mistake. Dealers can be so dodgy at times.
Glad you have it sorted now!
