Thinking electric... again... garage full of parts still

More research... Maine says any electric over 10kw needs to be titled for street duty. Anyone got an Alpha MCO to confirm it shows approx 60kw output? Sounds like the state will title an MX or EX as a dual sport. Why do I care when the EX is sold as street legal in the US out of the box? Well...

    Stark Battery Tech Thread

You guys are nuts. :D I'd go for a 5kwh battery that is more compact and lighter with a way higher charging speed in a heartbeat. Small enough to allow for quick swaps maybe, so you have one pack sipping off a generator while you hustle, then pop in, pop packs and keep on cruising on a Varg that...

Thinking electric... again... garage full of parts still

Issue with lithium fires at the track is the track's ability to A) put the fire out quickly and B) what to do with the remains after as they can re-ignite on their own after. Gas fires, a risk but they're equipped to quickly deal with them, and once out pretty easy to render the remains inert...

Thinking electric... again... garage full of parts still

So, small update: My local sumo option WILL allow Starks, just can't road race them on the main track, so that's cool. Nothing in stock around me matching what I want, not sure I'm ready to play around again with an order... still researching.

    General electronic wheelie assist

I suspect it will require a lower latency connection than can be achieved via low power bluetooth...

    General electronic wheelie assist

Yeah, the 'wheelie control' on streetbikes is there to limit wheel lift either 'at all' or to a specified, really low amount.

The next e bike is coming up

For those curious: Pre-order buy in: €3,500 (net, excl. VAT)(approx. USD 3,800 – indicative) Net price: €12,200(approx. USD 13,200 – indicative only, based on current exchange rates) Sounds like enough US people have expressed interest that they are going to include them in the initial 100?

    JARV-E (enduro)

That's exactly what I meant, either going digressive or absolute worst case scenario, the shock starts forcing the swingarm UP. Ran into that with some Chinese pitbikes back in the day, they relied on a rubber soft stop to keep things in check. Hammer a jump as an adult on said bike and suddenly...

    Stark ex mousse

I hadn't heard that mousse is illegal for street use, just a bad idea because the heat generated will literally cook the mousse off rapidly?

Other Bikes about helmets standards, lifespans and how they are sold

Not really a fair comparison, football helmets don't have to deal with anywhere NEAR the energy potential, or road hazard potential a bike helmet may see. We're also recently seeing big research and dev on football helmets because we're finally catching up on concussion research and realizing...

    JARV-E (enduro)

So, not a motocrosser with that frame design, I do like some of their setup choices though: Chain primary rather than enclosed gears, simpler, lighter though slightly more power loss. Main shaft is also the swingarm pivot so constant chain slack at all times. IIRC this impacts anti-squat though...

    Tewa Moto M3 Pro

Ok, as I watch... talking about all the quality parts as they slow pan across an axle block obviously rotated in the slot due to massive tolerances...

Thinking electric... again... garage full of parts still

So, in the case of the local track that pushed us out, us being the sumo community in general, yeah, they're boycotted. The owner has tried to coax some of us back but got no traction. In the case of the currently active track that says no electrics, I'm not ready to crucify them. They've got a...

Thinking electric... again... garage full of parts still

The facility is primarily a NASCAR track, with a full size road course, with lots of various paved access roads/etc that allow for fun sumo layouts to be adapted as well. The track owner has banned electrics, bikes, cars, doesn't matter. The primary concern point: In the event of a lithium fire...

Thinking electric... again... garage full of parts still

So, as ice season approaches and the set of KTM ice wheels gather dust in my garage... I'm once again thinking about getting another dirty bike. I've got a 1992 Yamaha WR250ZD that's been heavily reworked already, but it has an odd running issue I don't have the space to try and diag, and at...
