2025 KTM Freeride E

Yeah somehow the big brands see X specs sell for Y euro's. They see a good business case and developing for 5 years and come with bike X and put pricetag Y on it. However the market has moved on 5 years.
Livewire from Harley Davidson is the exact same

I rode the current gen Freeride E. It's a fun and approacheable experience. But it shouts play bike. The suspension, frame and everything is only so so... Play bikes sell for 6-9K not 13K. Who in his right mind will buy a Freeride for the same money as a 60hp Varg.

2027 is the new 2025!

Back in 2024, KTM introduced its all new 2025 Freeride. But it hasn't been released yet.

Lo and behold, it is now 2026 and KTM introduces its all new 2027 Freeride!

2025 Freeride was supposed to be 25 hp, 5.5 kWh, 111 kg
2027 Freeride will be...drum roll... 25 hp, 5.5 kWh, 111 kg.

Color me impressed.

The 29 kg 5.5 kWh battery is "easily" removable in less than 10 min, wow.

Released 3 years later than the Varg, with 24% less capacity for the same battery weight.

660 W charger enabling full charge in only 8 h, I can barely contain my excitement.

Its only saving grace could be if it's very aggressively priced (not at 13 k€).

sadly i went to my local dealer and they told me its 12.999€ in Spain. For me a logic price fot that specs could be maybe 8.499€ and im being very kind

Overpriced, but the only high quality components dirt bike weighing 15 kg less than the Stark.
Hope the Dust moto and Bonnell prove otherwise.

Freeride might be 10 kg lighter than Varg EX. With 24% less capacity, and 50 hp less.

It's like comparing CRF300L with CRF450R, they can both be great bike but they serve a different purpose, and certainly shouldn't be at the same price.

New Freeride is being set up to fail, same as the old Freeride. Don't understand KTM reasoning here.

High quality components? Where?
The Freeride is made up from kind of a child from bicycle and motorcycle parts. I was quite disappointed when i saw the previous version in real life.

It's all production motorcycle parts, just some are from their 85cc sized machines vs stuff put on the full size bikes. The Freerides I've seen didn't do things like sport mountain bike parts that maybe were 'beefed up' to try and keep up, etc?

I think they plan to offer a "fast charger" at 3.3 kW (equivalent to Stark standard charger) in a year or so (ofc it will cost extra).
so you pay 13k, get stuck with 8 hours charging for 1 year and then probably need to pay nearly another 1k to get 1.5/2 hour charging aprox, nice! The people in charge of this project are smoking big trees

Let's see what Yamaha and Electric Motion do

Yamaha investing in Electric Motion shows their commitment, first bike may have a small battery but they're in it for the long run.

I like the fact that the frame is purpose-built for the electric battery and powertrain, that contribute structurally.
I haven't understood whether that charger is an onboard charger and if its weight is included in the 112 kg.
Here in paragraph 3 they say that the battery is IP67 rated: I expected a better rating, considering the application and the common use of high pressure washers for dirtbikes.
Really expensive; I wonder whether they could still make a profit if the price were lower.
