How long are we expecting the Stark battery to last (long term)

It will only be a matter of time until competition forces the prices down on batteries, while there will be increases in performance. And if 3k goes to 1.5k E will be an even better deal..

I got an EcoFlow Delta Pro ~1000.00 dollars off from a year or so ago 33% discount. Also portable solar panels are down a lot too. At least here in the US if the bullshit tariffs/taxes were taken off we could probably get panels for even less. You probably have the same in the EU.

I've just checked: the same power station retails for 2,400 € discounted here. Refurbished ones don't cost much less than new ones. I hope it's just a matter of time and prices get lower here, too.

Over 2000€ for 3.6 kWh and 45 kg is a lot. You can put additional batteries to extend it up to 25 kWh. Obviously price and weight would be eye watering (4300€ total with one extra 38 kg battery to get to 7.2 kWh). It could make sense if you can keep it stationary in your van?

Got to say it must be seen as a long-term investment, they use LFP batteries rated for 3 500 cycles at 80 %, that should get you covered for a good 30 years

Let's look at the long term - I brought a power station in 2019. What I can buy now for the same money is half the price and half the weight.

battery life shouldn't be a problem on starks
or most other brands.
Its good to not let any battery run flat
but its not a killer they are hardy.

The power station is worth twice as much now happy

Yes, I had a 2018 Alta MXR for 3 years, put 230 hours on it, around 2500 miles. Always charged it to 100% and ran it down to totally dead every ride. Towards the end I definitely saw a drop off in range. I will say though, I feel like mine got less range than others did from the get-go from the guy I bought it off of. I am a very aggressive rider though.

I also have an 72v 70ah electric bomber bike that I built from scratch in 2019, we still ride that on a regular basis as well, and that one does not get the range now that it used to either. It is what it is, you can't expect batteries to last forever just like anything else. Entropy always comes into the picture.

No the surron only has one charge speed as far as I know, the freeride has fast and slow mostly charge it on slow to hopefully give the battery less of a hard time.

Since you guys were spot on last year about the p50 cell capacity increase to 7.2kW. Any news/speculations on new cells next year?

The 7.2 would be nice. But still falls a bit short for me. Getting closer to 9-10kW would render my ICE obsolete.

Just presume 7-8% more capacity per year, every year.

That's what lithium-nmc cells have been doing for the last decade. So for 8-10 kWh in the same weight we're looking at 3-5 years.

Hmm that would be a tad long to wait for. I would love a long range version of the battery though. I could easily live with 10kg more.

On the years old discussion on swappable battery we saw in this topic. My girlfriend and i can swap the battery in under 10 minutes and that's without drilling holes to speed it up. I guess we could do it in 5 minutes if we drill the holes, have an additional bashplate and practice a bit.

On battery life.
Even if the battery drops 20% it would become useless for my longer riding days, but it would not for MX practice and as quick swap for my competition. Sure i would need to spend €3K on a new battery, but there is still live in that one. Spending €3K on ICE maintenance is 3K gone.
If Stark choose to release some kind of adapter so we could charge 1 battery while the other is in the bike that would be great. Then buying an extra battery would start to make sense to me.
Our ''Off The Road'' events are really big laps. The EX is expected to do 1 lap, but i want to do 3 in 1 morning... Having an extra battery to swap for the second lap and charge the first one would make this bike suitable for that purpose.

I got my Varg MX in early May 2024.
I have around 340 hours on it and it has been rock solid dependable.
Only very minor issues, like bluetooth losing connection, but that improved a lot from the early days to now.
However, it's dead now. I had a remote trouble shooting session with Stark support, and I was told I have 2 dead cells.
I was also told that after an engineering team review, I would "probably" be getting a new battery.
I think the tech who did the trouble shooting simply didn't want to make any promises, but since my bike won't turn on, I'm pretty sure they will be sending me a new battery.
Of course, I have heard of many Stark owners getting battery replacements, so, I'm not sure how much longevity to expect.

I was commenting on expected life under normal charging conditions.
Production and other issues aside.
Battery anxiety will always be a problem with electric vehicles.
Hopefully stark will modify its programme to deliver a
reliable bike.
