Not to tell Stark their business, but the 15/42 I'm running eliminates this problem and extends the torque range. ICE bikes typically grab a tall gear in the whoops so that they don't have to shift and run out of gear. You have to keep the front end light.
 
That's a long podcast. IMO, the problem is with the rear end dropping. And this is due the the virtual flywheel being too small.
This could be a similar description, the bike isn't staying on top of the whoops? I'm a little confused by virtual flywheel, I assume you mean the ability to hold a steady power setting? Could you describe further?
It seems like the best technique for any bike it to let the front end skim and wheel tap as the rear end does all the work, but staying on top.
