    Maximum Scramble Range

I just did my first range tests on my Varg. I'm using a calibrated Trail Tech ride computer with front wheel sensor, the Varg uses a motor sensor which counts wheel spin as range and is incorrect! I'm 63 y.o., ride 50HP with 35% regen to mimic my KTM 300 2-stroke. I ride at a local park...

Use a Trail Tech Ride Computer Instead of the App!

The ride app sucks. Inconsistent ride recording and the statistics are wrong because the speed/distance sensor is based on motor RPM, not the front wheel rotation. When the rear wheel loses traction and spins, the app thinks you're going faster and when the wheel locks up it thinks you're...

Phone app did not record my ride

Here is what Stark support says regarding this. I don't understand why 4G is required to record GPS data: Thank you for contacting Stark. If you have 4G data the phone should collect this information, it's possible that at the time you were using the VARG the 4G connection was poor, in which...

Phone app did not record my ride

I tested the bike later in the day and the problem still persists, the Google maps trick did not solve it! I sent a message to Stark and am waiting for a reply. Steve

Phone app did not record my ride

I just enabled location permissions for Google maps on the Stark phone and now the Stark app seems to be working properly. I did 3 short rides in front of my house and all were recorded properly after enabling Google maps location.

Phone app did not record my ride

Theo, I'm running version v.1.0.135(290) which seems to be the latest. Some rides are recorded, some not. In the rides section one of my rides appears duplicated. Here is a screenshot of my rides with notes.

    Varg suspension

Just rode mine for the first time today and I agree, WAY too stiff for an older off-road rider. I'm 170lbs and 60+ y.o. so not super fast but I occasionally race B class off road. This bike beat me up real good today, I need it fixed! The best suspension I ever owned is my 2021 KTM 300...

Phone app did not record my ride

I have a new bike and did my first rides today. I did 2 rides in the session and shut the bike down between them. The second ride shows ride time but no GPS track or speed data. Anyone else have trouble registering each ride on the app? Steve

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

My tests indicate that your theory is probably correct, i.e. if you don't turn the key off, the system is calculating energy consumed by summing the volts*amps*dt and using this as the energy state displayed and also to decide when the battery pack enters blink mode. If the key is turned off it...

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

Energy is definitely not "created or destroyed" by playing with the key in these tests. What is at stake is how much energy the computer thinks is available and will therefore allow you to access. So far, my one test indicates that you have access to more of the battery's energy if you don't...

Owner's Review Review after 500 miles on my MXR

I've done two rides with the Renthal O-ring chain and noticed no adverse affect on range or power delivery. Like Phillip says, the bike is noticeably quieter and the chain isn't flimsy like the stock chain. I like it! Steve

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

Today I rode a full charge without turning off the key and I went 10% further than a similar ride yesterday, ending with the same charge state in both cases. It's only one data point but it seems to indicate that you shouldn't turn the key off during a ride if you want maximum range. Of course...

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

Here's an explanation that covers the factors you mentioned and also describes the state of charge "learning" function which is based on unloaded cell voltage, similar to what I'm guessing is going on when the power is reset. They mention a 4 hour "rest" period to get an accurate reading from...

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

My theory is that each time you cycle the main power, the energy reading resets to the value calculated from the zero load battery pack voltage. From what I've seen there is roughly a 10% energy error over a complete discharge cycle so you might gain 10% by not turning it off. I think after a...

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

I noticed that the battery energy state has a "hysteresis" behavior if you power cycle the bike while charging or discharging (i.e. riding.) This video shows examples of how you will "gain" energy when charging just by turning the key on/off and similarly you will "lose" energy if you do the...

Owner's Review Review after 500 miles on my MXR

I purchased this one and then took out some links to get the correct length: Pro Taper 520 XRC Chain | MotoSport *Edited for correct O-ring chain, original link was incorrect!* I noticed it was quieter than the stock chain when I took it up to 60 mph on the street. I couldn't tell any loss of...

Owner's Review Review after 500 miles on my MXR

I've made more mod's and will be doing another review soon. The short list is: 1) 18" rear wheel with high profile tire (Dunlop MX52 Geomax 110/100x18) 2) 12/14 gearing 3) O-ring Chain 4)Trail Tech Endurance 2 ride computer installed to get correct mileage (see my other thread on Alta's motor...

Speedometer/Odometer reads from motor shaft, NOT front wheel!!

I installed a Trail Tech Endurance 2 ride computer and tested it on the street. With a claibrated front wheel size it reads roughly 10% faster than the Alta computer with the current gearing and rear wheel I'm running. I cut into the foam housing for the Alta computer and installed the...

Refuel Electric Vehicle Event at Laguna Seca 7.1.18

My friends and I finished second place at this event in 2010 with our homemade e-moto, a converted CR 125 that we ran with dirt or super motor set up. The peak power output was about 20HP but was enough to beat everyone except for one factory bike 8 years ago. Things have certainly changed...

Speedometer/Odometer reads from motor shaft, NOT front wheel!!

I met with the founders of Alta around 2008 when they saw this video on YouTube. I encouraged them not to make the mistake Zero had made at that time, which was to build a glorified electric mountain bike rather than a full-on electric dirt bike. There was no disagreement between us on that...
