I haven't owned an MX model, but the EX model is significantly quieter than my Zero FX chain drive set up. The FX on the freeway was painful.

Another useful attempt is going into settings -> apps -> Varg -> force stop. Then reopen Varg. I would try this before uninstalling Varg updates, which resets the app and forces a new download
