If your DYI kinda guy with a 3D printer you could print out one of these display protectors. It is a little on the large side but it has kept my display safe through 1800+ miles of woods riding. The design shown doesn't show the holes for the buttons but that's an easy mod. Either way good luck...

I'm a day late to the party but I had this exact thought. Here is my 3D printed 'LCD protector' with an add on iPhone holder. I can call up a GPS app or a dedicated speedometer app as needed. If I need to see the battery level I just flip it up for a quick check every now and then and snap it...
