Had a great ride today. Tight and gnarly trail with some rocky fire roads. The EXR just crawled through it like it was a Trials bike with a one speed transmission and rekluse clutch. Got up to 10,000 feet above sea level today. The bike was jetted perfectly all of the time. ;) Anyway it took just over 2 hours to go 20 miles, used exactly half of my battery.

Will do. I posted this question on another thread, I guess I could ask it here, the majority of riding I do is off road stuff where speeds rarely exceed 30MPH and there is a lot of elevation change. No Moto X. I have the 2019 EXR with 13/53 gearing. I ride Map 2 about 99% of the time. What I am wondering is, if I went to a 12T on the counter, would I get more range? Today's ride along with last weeks ride, I did a lot of tight trail crawling, where I maybe went 6-10MPH over some very steep rocky stuff. My thinking is, if I geared lower, I would need less phase amps to get the work done, which would translate into less needed current, and more range. Am I on the right track here?

You are correct in that the motor is more efficient at higher revs (I believe ~6,800 for this motor). However in my opinion the difference will not be noticeable. Wheel-spin (and high speeds which don't apply based on what you wrote) is the single greatest killer of range. If you go down a tooth you will have more torque and have a greater chance of spinning the rear which may offset the savings from less stall-speed power spikes. All that to say you'd be switching to the same gearing as the MXR which is obviously an OEM config. It might even be Alta's preferred gearing but went up to a 13 on the EXR to allow road speeds.

Thanks Strider for the breakdown on that. Maybe I will leave it where it is until I need a new chain and sprocket then.

Here are a couple of more pics from today's ride. Was a great day with perfect temps. I did re gear my bike with a 12T 52T sprockets. I figured I gained about 6%. With the 13T 53T gearing @ 60MPH indicated, my actual speed was 57MPH. With the 12T 52T, @60MPH indicated, my actual speed is 54MPH. Anyway I rode another 20 miles and had about 50% of my battery left, initial thoughts are the lower gearing isn't giving me any increase in range on the trails.

Had another great ride today. Really liking the EXR alot. Wouldn't trade it for nothing. On another note, I am not noticing any increase in range with the 12/52 combo over the 13/53 combo. May try a 13/52 combo in the near future.

I thought the consensus here, to get incrementally more range, was to bump the front up to 14t, getting the electric motor into a more efficient zone, more often. My rides are so varied that it would be hard to judge performance change. I have yet to try it but look forward to the experiment :)

I was under the same impression, with the caveat that it was WOT in Map4. The speculation was the 14T decreased wasted wheel spin on the track which translated into more range. My thoughts were since I ride in Map2 all of the time, and I control wheel spin at the wrist, the slightly lower gearing would require less phase amps to get the job done, and that would translate into a little more range. So far, I am not seeing any increase, or decrease for that matter in range.

Report back on how you like that tire, I have been considering one myself.
Had a nice cold ride today, really liking the tire. It hooks up really well on hard dirt, soft dirt, sand, rocks, and pavement. No mud encountered this ride so I can't say. That said, if you go with this tire, go with a 110/100-18 tire. The 120/100-18 is so big, that I actually get pitched to the side of obstacles I am trying to miss on the trail. The tire is a little too wide. I ran it at 5 PSI and 10 PSI. 10 PSI is the sweet spot, the bead doesn't roll in the corners. I think this tire will last several hundred, or maybe even a thousand miles. I got 203 miles out of the stock tire. When riding my 450, I average 120 miles for the Maxxiss Desert IT.

203 miles from the stock Metzler!?!? I managed to get nearly 1000 from it, with a good mix of pavement and hard packed gravel road, and I'm not easy on the throttle.

Are you participating in burnout competition?
