My understanding is that both the A pack and the R pack are the same size, 5.8kw, but that the R pack because of the batteries in it can deliver more amps and hence more power. I haven't heard that the R pack has more or less usable power. I assumed they were the same, but could easily be wrong on that.

Yeah, I have heard stuff and I confuse fact from fiction. I think the “A” pack is better for... Some reasons.

No. There same in capacity roughly. Theres plenty of discussions on this forum as well.

The A pack doesn't seem to have the Code 36 issue that some of the R packs have, but the R packs will deliver more current/power so "better" is probably dependent on your riding style and how you use the bike. If you need, and can use, the additional acceleration/power available from a R pack, then it is probably better. For me. the power in my EX is more than I can handle so I am just fine with with an A pack.

We did some tests MX vs MXR, same riding and style following each other. The MX with the A-pack showed the thermal warning way earlier than the MXR with R-Pack. Is that only the difference in batterytechnic or something else?

If you adapt/change the connectors, can you swap A packs into R bikes or vice versa?

You would have to swap the inverter as well, and the main harness.
Also do not use the A pack connectors with R packs: you will catch on fire eventually.
