Alta EXR Auxiliary 12v Power

Hello,

I am currently sourcing parts set up 3 Alta EXR motorcycles with emergency lighting and sirens. My biggest concern is being able to pull an additional 60W or so from the factory wiring. Does anyone know if there is a way to safely supply that much power at 12v from the factory wiring or am I going to have to run this system off of a separate battery?

The system is very sensitive to variations in load, I suspect for the power requirements you are talking about you will have to go the auxiliary battery route. There has been a lot of discussion on this subject on here previously you can catch up on. A couple other guys have ran some tests on the various circuits to try and see what the limits were, hopefully they can comment further.

Looks like 40W is the maximum that you can get out of the stock accessory wiring.

well my screen name kind of gives it away. I am a Park Ranger at an OHV park and we have 3 ALTA EXR's for our patrol bikes

Might want to check with Moto One KTM in Nampa ID. I know they set up an EX for the Boise Fire Department to use for rescues in the Boise foothills so they map be able to help.

For your use, a quick back of the napkin calculation showed a separate/additional 12V system would be needed.
