Alta Multitool Download

Multitool is only for displaying bike data, downloading and reading log files, and uploading firmware packages to the bike.

I'm having same issue.
Anyone get theirs working?

I don't even know the difference between Linux and Unix so installing this software is a major pain. Why couldn't it be Windows based?

runs on mac and rasbian (raspberry pi linux variant) too, after some python dependency issues: older wx and some other pip module needed to be an older (not latest) version. If anyone does make a new firmware zip with fixes or features like: map 5 - no regen, map 6 - max regen, I would only use exact same hardware and os as they had for their dealer laptops to minimize the risk of some os/hardware/python bug or oddity that would cause the bike to brick during the firmware update. Anyone know the exact laptop model and ubuntu version?

Still haven't been able to get mine to work. Freezes on startup. If anyone knows how to fix that please fill me in.

Also, the Alta laptop I've seen was a Lenovo Thinkpad 11E just like THIS one.

So, at the end of the day it looks like someone could buy all the hardware needed to construct a service laptop for $300ish depending on what laptop choice you went with. Nice!

I got it to all work now with that latest link. There's two small steps missing in the instructions though.

First off, you need to install python2.7 if your version of Ubuntu doesn't already have it.

sudo apt-get python2.7

When I first tried, I installed 3.36.19.E and then went straight ahead and installed 3.37.11.ET, and was getting the same errors as everyone else. I then deleted both versions of MT, as well as deleted /usr/local/bin/redshift_multitool.py (which is the loader).

I then installed 3.36.19.E again, but this time attempted to launch 3.36.19.E. It worked:



So then I closed this version and proceeded to then install 3.37.11.ET, and now that works too:



So i recommend everyone do this:

Follow the instructions in OP's link, but open up 3.36.19.E immediately after installing it. Then close 3.36.19.E and proceed with installing 3.37.11.ET. It seems there's some dependency set on 3.37.11.ET that are created when 3.36.19.E is first launched.

Received my cable from OneLapper plus the canusb adapter. Here's proof that it all works.

Here is where the bike side plugs in. Remove the seat, then there's a little black plug that you just pull off to expose the female end on the bike.


Here's my bike plugged in showing the Dashboard view:


Here you can see the Battery module which displays voltage of each p group. Each color represents 1 module. There are 4.


Here is the Raw Signal tab, showing each individual data point on the bike in real time. There are 453 data points .


There's also data logging. Looks like Multitool downloads log files from the bike. Very slow though.

Firmware updating is done via the Versions tab.

I'll probably make a video walking through the software in more detail for everyone. Mark911 said he'll make a manual as well.

This is just outstanding, the capability to monitor all the vital signs on the bike, that will definitely help us keep our machines going for years to come!

these Altas are more than a battery & 2 wheels - I just want to ride not reprogram my do hicky with a nasa laptop program thus allowing jet boost mode....
