It's progress, but the article made it sound like the cooperation between the companies was just for a charging standard, not much more. Possibly a mistranslated statement, hopefully it leads to much bigger and better things.

The best comparison I can make is how CCS is just now a standard, but Tesla has been using their own (better) product for close to a decade...

A standard charger makes sense. I couldn't tell you how many different cell phone chargers I used to have. I'm glad they mostly went to micro USB.
