Just checking if anyone has had there bike locked up? Was rolling it backwards into the garage in the motor locked up. Pop the chain off and the countershaft sprocket is tight spinning in both directions. Curious if anybody has had a problem or where I should begin looking? The good thing is there’s not much to look at should be easy to figure out. Will let you know after I tear into it.

How does the motor spin with the gear reduction removed on the right side? What firmware is on the bike? Rarely the motor has a magnet failure.

Most of the time if the motor felt tight that was a possible issue with the inverter. We would find the issue before shipping and swap the inverter out.

The motor primary bolt blackout. luckily I caught it before to much damage on case
My question now is does the gear have to be press on over the taper part of the Motor shaft And what’s the torque for the bolt. Do the gears line up evenly? The bearing on the motor is a wet bearing? Looks like it has a seal on the outside to the gear?

In the instructions we installed the gears on the shaft. They should lineup evenly. The bigger gear gets installed first. Also you may need to install the drive sprocket to torque down the bolt (production had a fixture to hold it in place). Then the smaller gear gets loaded on after. Torque values for the bolt is 31Nm (ensure the bellville washer is on correctly). The bearing thats on the output shaft is oiled (bottom gear). The bearing thats on the motor shaft (smaller one) is part of the motor assembly. Your pictures show the pinion gear and output gear in decent condition...If you dont have the gasket for the oil cover let me know.

Thanks of the information @Rashid510 I was concerned about the gear being loose and oil getting in to the motor through the bearing. I’m going to replace the bolt since The first couple of threads are worn off is there any thing special about the bolt? The gasket still looks good so I’ll try to use it.
Once again thanks for following up and taking care of us 👍

@Rashid510, from what Holy Alta Text do the above assembly instructions come from? Is it something that can be posted here on the forum?

@Rashid510 or @ayden_kry. I suppose there is no way to check that without taking the gear cover off?

Does Liquid have the gasket that goes between the gear cover and the motor housing? I'm not seeing it on the site. Does it have a part number?

That would be the Alta Bible/Quran/Gita = The work instructions that built the bikes. The owners documentation is similar to what the WIs were but contains down rev pictures/PNs. Could be doable/shareable. Its very much manufacturing oriented so it would have to be cleaned up to be more owner friendly.

That bolt could vibe over time.
[3501459-00] GASKET, COVER, GEARBOX, REDSHIFT. Its unique gasket. PM me if you need them.

So essentially it sounds like what happened here was the bolt was loose (potentially for awhile), and just dancing on the inside face of the cover. The forward direction of the motor spinning the bolt back in when it made contact. When the bike was backed up it caught just enough to back the bolt out and bind.

Maybe 271 (red) Loctite is in order here?

I think in forward motion the spline on the gears stay tight and when rolling backwards they separate causing the binding (Locking up).
Question for @Rashid510 Do you think the bolt could of came loose from hammering motos in map one?
@Fod and I have been doing Motos together in map one at the end of the day. Maybe spinning the motor at max RPM for longer periods of time? Or possibly the regen would cause it to come loose? Hope not because that’s been our summer fun this year👍

This is an interesting question. I personally do a lot of riding in Map 1 on my SM around town and commuting. I have yet to feel or see any damage on my gear side. The regen in map 1 is pretty mild compared to 3 and 4. The bolt holding the pinion gear should be checked along with the bottom nut. Threadlocker (273) is recommended since that bolt was from our hardware supplier w/lockpatch.

@Fog 25 I noticed there is no paint mark on the bolt or the sprocket....are there remnants of one?

That being said, many of our bikes are entering a realm of not getting service checks (probably the side affect of electrics tbh). Should really look into doing a torque check on certain critical fasteners (suspension, driveline)
