This race was a week ago, but the Florida Trail Riders get a whole line of Electrics. Many Starks and others. So the example is out there. The laps are about 10-12 miles times 4 laps. This is a little outside of their range, as you can see by their results , they lead until the last lap.
I also got a chance to go to the AMA Arenacross in Prescott AZ this weekend. The Starks had a good showing, but didn't beat the Gas bikes. Justin Bogle on Stark and Vince Freise on Honda Gas.
Here is a YouTube of the rider Joey Medina, riding the electric XE4 bike for the first time (a company in Florida building Yamaha's into Electric XEMX1.com), in the FTR Hare Scrambles Electric bike race, and the results.

30 mph average speed that's quite a fast loop, do the guys on XE4 get through 1.5 h by swapping batteries or do they run a single 4 kWh pack?

The guy in 8th on a KTM is riding a Freeride?

They change the battery every lap. They only use a little over 1/2 of the battery a lap, depending on how agggressive the rider is. They are smaller batteries, like 4KWh packs. If you go to 19:50 minutes on the YouTube you can see the 20sec or so battery change. Mark sells a very smooth Battery Change system. Go to his web site. XEMX1.com He builds the motor gearbox from a special Motoenergy Axial rotor with dual stators, and links them with the XBMX X-1000 controller. His quick change system is really a work of art.

The question was brought up last weekend, is swapping batteries meeting the rules of "finishing with the same bike that one leaves the starting line with" per FTR rules? A faulty battery can be swapped out whereas a faulty motor cannot be swapped out. Just saying...

No one is swapping motors, just filling up gas tanks ;)
Agreed. But refilling gas tanks vs swapping batteries is not the same thing.:
Again, if a battery can be swapped, does it meet the definition:
6. The machine a rider leaves the Start Line with is the official machine of the rider for that event and may not be switched during the event.
