Gearing question

Hello all, I’ve had my 2018 MXR for a few months now and finally got around to changing the gearing yesterday. I’m desert riding in the Las Vegas area and while normally we are on technical single track, occasionally we get into wide open stuff and need a higher top speed. The stock gearing 12/53 got to 68mph pinned so I went to 14/49. Took it out today and got the exact same top speed in modes 2-4!?! Is there a governor or something limiting top speed and if so how do you get around it? I’m pretty sure the Erzberg article I read said they were running 13/47 and getting 80-90mph. Thanks!

I've been known to state or ask the obvious, so I apologize in advance. How did you determine that the top speed was exactly the same?

I believe the MPH is base on engine RPM not actual wheel speed. So the console MPH will read the same with different final gear ratios.
