Interesting... selling just the motor and controller (plus accessories) seems like a smart call for them. Less convenient if you are buying from them, but this is a great setup for a project bike. The limited power, but sweet aircooled motor would make a really nice vintage bike build. I wonder if @AltaWest could do something like this.
Because regen braking is usually the result of the current going back into the controller and to the battery, I am guessing that they are regualting the amps and probably have things turned up enough that the rear wheel can be locked up on any surface. With the amount of DC amps flowing through the system, it would probably only take 400 or 500 of the 800 plus available amps from braking to lock the rear wheel up completely. I am just guessing on this. Years ago, I built an 11kw ebike with an Adaptto controller, I could program regen amps from the on board computer to do what ever I wanted it to do, as long as I stayed with in the confines of the systems limitations.I like the idea, to have a regenerative brake on the rear in combination with the rearbrakelever! There is no brakedisc anymore!
Soooo... my math tells me to get 30KW from a 36volt system, DC amps have to be around 833amps. Its approximate. I am guessing if its 36 volt system using 18650 cells, probably looking at 10S 40P or maybe even 50P, if the pack is as big as the Alta. who knows. I can't find any other info on it.
Hey John, thats awesome!!! Here is what I used the google translator to translateIt's a 72v system. Check out the image from the front page:

The image next to this one on that page also shows a 48v version that is limited to 20kW.
Also, it does not appear that they are selling a bike or battery, just "drive-train components" and tires.
If anyone wants to know more, I'm fluent in German and would be happy to breakdown any of the details. I was reading the site initally and didn't stop to consider that I might need to translate... opps!
I have a Brammo Empulse R. If the battery is full 100%, I can run down my 20% decline with 500meters and the bike is doing regen all the time. I think, if You did one acceleration with a dirt bike, there should be enough "room" for the next braking manouver in the battery!I am skeptic about removing the rear brake: if the battery is full, you won't be able to regen/brake (unless they left enough room "at the top" which then hurts your overall performance).
