I might not be the only blind person - there are built in tail lights

So the front turn signals were pretty dang obvious while watching the build video, and I'm sure like most people, I skipped that part of the video where they installed the US legal turn signals on the front and kept the integrated turn single lights.

However I did not catch the tiny brake light and turn signals in the rear and thought I had no choice but to install the hideous rear turn signals/brake lights. It wasn't until today, when I was playing with options on rewiring things to get rid of those dumb things, I noticed if you don't connect the ugly things, the integrated brake light and turn signals start functioning.

I really wish they were brighter though. I did play with the outputs to the US rear lights. There are 4 wires, they separated the ground, running lights, turn signals and brake lights. However the brake light circuit seems overly sensitive to load, for some reason. I wouldn't mind adding some extra lights to help give some more attention to people behind me, but the light I care the most about, the brake lights, got upset over a 1 amp LED and shut down the circuit. The same load on the running light circuit and turn signal circuit, didn't bother it. Kind of weird that the brake light circuit and only that circuit, is so hyper sensitive.

For now, I'm going to leave it alone and use the integrated lights. I don't know if it will eventually reset or if you have to have it remotely reset. But for anyone else interested in playing with those circuits, be very careful.

There are 4 wires.
Black - ground
Red - brake
Green - running light
Yellow - turn signal

BTW, roughly 1/2 amp LED worked fine on the brake circuit. When I went to 1 amp, it initially blinked roughly 3 times per second. I tried merging both brake light circuits, thinking that would double the amperage, but it appears the circuit detected a short between the two circuits and that is when it shut off - so don't try that.

Is it really a matter of fact that the central integrated backlight and breaklight stops working
when the aux turnsignal are connected?

I put the bike together yesterday and saw the behavior today.
is that real? what for?

I didn't think to check that while putting a load on the individual circuits. I wonder if you can add a load to one or two of the circuits without disabling the integrated lights? I may eventually play with that, but my "solution" for additional lights for now was to get a wireless helmet brake light (brakefreetech.com). Adds a little weight to the helmet and you have to charge it once a week or so, but those are pretty minor complaints. The lights are very bright and hard to ignore.

Has anyone with a US EX been able to remove the blinker stalks and have the EU brake light work? My blinkers and running light work, but I can't get the brake light to come on. Super odd.

Try rebooting the bike - I have ran into that problem a couple times. Sometimes the headlight won't work, sometimes the turn signals won't work. Just turning the bike off and back on usually fixes it, but twice I had to do a hard reset to get them to work again.

The integrated brake light isn't very bright, BTW. It is hard to tell it is even turning on in a dark room.

Thanks, will do. Bike is literally brand new..well 10 miles on it now, but I could see this solving it "crossing fingers". Oh and you're not kidding, the blinkers were dim as well. I want to be safe but my gosh those rear stalks are so bulky and ugly. I don't suppose you have any suggestions for alternatives? The connectors are something I've never had experience with, so wiring up a new set might be challenging.

I'm sure there are some aftermarket options coming out - I haven't been looking. I already posted everything you need to know if you want to make your own lights in this thread. I personally decided to just go with a wireless helmet brake light when on the street - it is extremely bright and I don't need to worry about breaking it when I go off roading, which was my big issue with the dumb stalks that come with the bike. They wouldn't last 10 minutes of trail riding

Roger that - Thanks for putting the info in the thread, btw. It was very helpful.

I'd be super excited for someone to build/sell a plug and play kit for deleting the whole rear under-fender assembly. If the integrated brake light sucks (I don't know, I still have rear stalky stock lights on), then I'd just as soon delete the whole thing and mount something with a low profile package of plate bracket, plate light, brake light, running light, and turn signals. If anyone finds something along those lines, please post!
