Inverter Throttle Fault

Got a good ride in this evening, and my throttle problem is not solved. The first time I turned it forward beyond the stop it shut off all power, but didnt show inverter fault on the display. Now it shows on the display everytime like before.

Hate to hear that. Hopefully it will be something simple.

My dealer updated the firmware on my EXR yesterday afternoon and I picked the bike up today. From what they told me, it took two attempts on the update for it to register. I rode the bike this afternoon and tried to exaggerate the throttle movement in both directions to see if I could get a fault. I never saw a fault and the bike never quit. Mine is looking good so far.

So now we have multiple FW versions and placebo versions!

Don't dive into your throttles, you will waive the warranty on the motorcycle.

I have a 2019 MXR I purchased in September 2018 and just resently started riding it. My VIN is #455. After just a couple of runs I hade the ”Inverter Throttle Fault” issue, even though my dealer (WMR in Florida) claim they made the update using the latest firmware before they shipped it to me!

Reading some threads on the topic in this forum makes me worried, because my bike wont go at all! It goes live on the ”ignition button” and I can roll away once, but the second I reverse the throttle it dies and I get the nasty message on the display. For the rest of you it seems your bikes got back to running again after a full reset cycle using the key - mine wont. And as long as not reversing the throttle past the ”zero” location you were fine, right?
Is there anything I can do to update (re-flash) the firmware? Do the dealers still have the laptops from Alta?
Is this only a software issue? Or hardware too, do I need to replace the complete throttle assembly?
Desperately looking for solution now... Wish to ride.

It's more likely that your dealer lied to you about the firmware version, rather than the throttle went bad.

But if you have to buy a new throttle, try @AltaWest, or @ElectroBraap, or search the Classifieds, or post your own a Willing-to-Buy ad. OEM throttles are floating around, and I do not think anyone has broken one yet, many folks might want to sell them for the right price. If all fails, you can buy a new one from the manufacturer. Might have to move your harness with the connector over to it. All the ex-Alta folks would help you with which throttle model to buy. I wouldn't worry about the throttle until I check the firmware.

This sounds more concerning than a throttle issue (sorry to raise it up a notch). The FW update IS supposed to fix the rolling throttle issue. If the inverter throttle fault is occuring with new FW, that could possibly be related to the inverter throttle board..

Swede are you able to provide pics of the FW version?

Sure I will as soon as I have it all set up. (Waiting for the bike side of the cable.)
Do you know if someone else had the throttle fault issue as badly as I do? Since my bike will not reset itself after turning off and on the key except only sometimes. And then it will stall again and display the message immediately as soon as I touch the throttle.

The throttle fault issue was a documented problem we found. There were a few members here who indicated the issue (roll on throttle, Inverter Throttle Fault Error occurs, key cycle fixes issue temporarily) which then led to the mandatory FW update to fix the issue.

And then it will stall again and display the message immediately as soon as I touch the throttle.

When you mean " not reset itself after turning off and on the key except only sometimes" does that mean your trying to key OFF the bike and key the bike back ON in order to get the bike in drive? When you hit the starter button do you hear the click and the green halo appears? When you touch the throttle are you rolling forward on the throttle or back on the throttle when that error reappears?

Here is my situation: After I key the bike back ON in order to get the bike in drive normally it shows the "inverter throttle fault" on the display and the starter button does not make the green halo come on. Instead it also reads " not ready for start " in the display.

However, a couple of times I have actually been able to activate the halo (no messages appeared those times), but right upon rolling the throttle backwards (not forward) it dies and the messages display again.

I will check the firmware version within a couple of days and let you know the outcome.

Really appreciate the clarification. Determining the FW situation will let us know which path to take (hardware or software) and not throw parts at the situation.

You are right...
I finally got the two cables delivered to me and synched the Multitool software with my bike - only to find out that I already had the latest FW version installed! So the problem (the inverter throttle fault issue) did not immediately go away...

Anyway, I managed to locate the real reason to the problem, it was the socket which connects the throttle cable to the cable from the bike that did not close the circuit completely! One of the six little connectors inside the socket had been pushed back out and did not connect. Once I fiddled this one back into place everything works fine and the bike rides perfectly again! So no need to buy a new throttle assembly (not right now at least).

Thanks everyone who helped me out, cheered me on or gave advice along the way. Much appreciated! Now I have to go riding...

If one of the signal pins on the JST connector popped out, that can possibly mean the TPA (Terminal Position Assurance) on the connector can be damaged. Its the blueish plastic thats inside the connector. Recommend a throttle replacement to ensure no more issues.

Congrats on resolving your issue. Well diagnosing it anyways. I wonder how that even happened

Give me a buzz cause I got lots is those . Not so much of anything else anymore. But throttles I have.
