Is MXR & EXR Rear Shock The Same

What is the difference between the MXR and EXR rear shock - I have an EXR and the suspension is too soft - I put a stiffer spring in the rear (WP 80-250 versus the 53-250 stock)

The rear shock is still too soft - can I just get the shock re-valved or would I be better off getting an MXR rear shock.

Also I installed WP AER 48 front forks just like the EXR - any recommendations on how to set it up, air pressure for 185 lbs, rebound setting etc.

The MXR rear shock has a different valving. I'd just buy an MXR rear shock from Liquid and not bother with buying springs and revalving.

No it actually is an 80-250 spring.

I do not think you can compress that without a hydraulic press. This is a spring rate for 1.3L adventure twin cylinder behemoths.

Yes, the MX/EX shocks are different and are longer. You do not want them.

Regarding the V1 shock with - 01 part number

Was the valving issue from WP specific to Alta or does it also affect KTM shocks with the same part number

The external body of the shock is the same between MXR and EXR, but the valving is vastly different. The EXR has a 5.4kg/mm spring stock, and the MXR has a 6.0kg/mm spring stock. The shock springs are interchangeable. I put the stock 6.0 spring from my MXR on my EXR (since im running a 6.4kg/mm on my MXR). The valving on the EXR shock will need to change since a stiffer spring will require much more rebound damping.

No. As Philip mentioned above, the MX/EX shocks are slightly longer.

Oops! I thought the EXR had an enduro shock. But if it is the same as the MXR, then the OP can buy an MXR 60N/mm spring and install the MXR valving (as documented in Resources).

You can install the MXR/EXR shocks onto an MX/EX if you also install the MXR/EXR linkages.

I've been toying with the idea of trying a KTM 450 linkage with KTM 450 valving and spring rate (whatever the rate would be for a KTM450 for my weight plus 25 lbs). If i had a KTM gas bike i probably would have already tried it. Not even sure if the linkage from a KTM will bolt up.

I have a 2017 Husky FE350 I might get in there and start measuring some stuff, as the linkage sure looks similar!

Some parts measure out close, and the shock appears to be the same/close to the same length and fitment, but the long link is different length for sure.
