Could anyone please explain the modification? ... It's not straightforward to me. I see that the top of the inverter has some aftermarket parts and that in the zone where the charging port used to be there is nothing.

Also, it looks like they had to modify the inverter housing top upper and lower cap to make room for this plug. The top cap material looks to be cast metal instead of plastic as well. Possibly for durability or improved thermal properties?

The gen2’s look sick but the only downside I can see with this is if some individual does not cap the port or somehow damages the pins. Basically causing any damage to the charge port… the whole top of the inverter needs to be swapped meaning the battery has to be dropped. I prefer having a separate housing like the gen1’s just in case something like this happens. Shit happens, and the gen1’s seem easier to fix if something fails.
