I honestly think that the bleeding procedure for the G1 was too messy and possibly time consuming; never tried, though.
The taller fitting should significantly increase the hydrostatic pressure if you fill the radiator up to its top. Besides, there will always be an air gap in the top part of the additional hose if the coolant level isn't higher.

I think the conversion kit is the part number SMX1-CL-G2-KT
