New VARG Software Update.

I don't know if it's relevant, but after the disco lights and shutdown I got the magenta light for the second time. Bike and app were already updated at that moment.
Then the magenta light went off on its own.

This is all tolerable in the garage on a rainy day, but I would not want to deal with any of it at the start of a ride.

Charging power slider in the app can still be set to 6.6kW, by the way. (n)
Eric Seifert, introduced as Stark Future employee earlier in that video confirms
  • 6.6kw charger being tested as we speak
  • introduced to the market when ready
  • comes in charge stand as an accessory

Hey guys, I just came across this new charging mode (storage charging). I gave it a try but couldn’t get it to work. Has anyone here tested it successfully or knows what it’s supposed to do?

by "couldnt get it to work" do you mean that you were trying to slide it to the right and didnt move? if that, is because the charger needs to be pluged, it needs to be on charging

Yeah my bike was charging when I tried to slide it to the right

Okay,... noticed something strange since the new app update. I got +300km without even riding the bike?

Send out a support ticket to stark about this, waiting for response.

See it positive, you saved some extra (virtual) gas ;)

Michael
Haha, I rather have the correct 'milage' on my bike.

The answers I received so far from stark:

- connectivity problem

This aint a connectivity problem..

- "we can see your stark app isn't at the latest update, please update"

While I mention that since the latest update, with the new dashboard, I got this problem. The phone is on the latest stark app..

And now we hope for a decent reply.. :-)

This is just a guess at a possible answer:
A lot of people have commented that their phone showed less than the "real" mileage.
Stark may have corrected this issue: For the ride and the mileage to be recorded, the phone must be turned on, linked to the bike, and have a 4G signal and a GPS signal, otherwise the ride (and mileage) is not recorded.
So perhaps the real mileage is stored in the bike, and now syncs with the phone?

so then people will put 10.000 miles on the bike but let the phone at home and then sell them with "only 500 miles, like new" :ROFLMAO:

the app works bad... the new feature for the mapswitch brightness doesnt work... at night is very disturbing

This is less than ideal for me - a big point of riding for me is to get away from places with reception.

This is the 4G for my main riding area:

Yeah, one big hole.

At least in the US, DOT is not going to be happy about a registered vehicle that can only update the odo when ridden in areas with cell reception or a charged phone...

Just checked mine.

Got a discrepancy of almost 400km.
Looking into it, Stark states "Stats are estimated from GPS and ride telemetry. Results can vary due to signal loss, terrain, weather, device settings, and syncing"
Looked at my "History" the map overlays and there are are alot of perfectly straight lines. What I assume has happened is GPS has dropped then picked up again drawing a line between the two.

Unless its changed in the most recent version, the dashboard ODO and ride stats ODO is based on the VCU. The VCU number is constantly updated and kept accurate based on the pure number of rotations of the motor (meaning it will not be accurate with gearing changes). This only applies to vehicles on the new VCU, so EX, SM, 1.2. Original MX's didn't have this feature on launch and so while they now use the proper system for odometer measurement (as of firmware 1.2.8), the historical data won't be accurate due to the GPS based tracking prior to the updates. The email they sent out is based on the recorded ride data they collect, which is done on the phone and via GPS, thus the discrepancy.

Also worth noting this is why the "hours" meter is completely useless, you should not use it as a metric when looking at used bikes or evaluating how much a given Stark was actually ridden, as its purely from the phone. And finally in my experience Stark support staff are not trained well (or at all) and do not have any real technical knowledge. Most technical issues and questions seem to need escalation to the engineering team before they get a proper response, which seems silly to me but who knows for sure.

That could be possible, but would still be weird. Because you have no way of checking these 'corrections'.

And it's not the case that I have recently driven 300km without the phone. In fact I have never driven without the phone, except for some case's it wouldn't connect to the bike. (that is theoreticly the same is driving without the phone).

But still, once the connection is regained it should show the actual ODO. And not a '6 months' correction at once without any idea if this is actually correct.

Stark askes me for a 'history' screen shot to see if there were 'ghost rides'. (there weren't any)
Send them the screen shots and waiting for further reply's.

I finally got my VARG app to update today, after days of completely useless "copy and paste" pointless assistance from Stark Support.

I eventually had to ask for someone with proper technical knowledge and someone higher up at Stark finally gave me a solution that instantly worked.

I was advised to go to the Bluetooth settings, select and delete the bike (VIN shows as a paired Bluetooth device), and then to restart the phone.

What I actually did, was delete the bike from the Bluetooth menu, and then re-pair it again without even needing to restart. After this the app very quickly showed the available update, and it finally updated.

Hopefully this helps anyone else not getting their app to update.

Got an update from stark support:

Happy to hear the mileage of 1600km is actually the correct one, but still weird how the bike displays +300km over an app update.

Inaccuracy of Varg distance and time has been discussed and explained already.

Varg distance is consistently 10% lower than the GPS watch. Where I ride bike is always within signal and there are no interruptions in tracking.
Varg total time is measured from the engine ON to engine OFF. It will include the time without moving.

If you need precise data use a different instrument. Otherwise the margin of error is not so great or difficult to adjust.
