Open taillight

Since hardly anyone uses it because of the 3in1 indicators I try to get rid of the taillight.

Figured if I just desolder the cable inside the light it stays whole and I am able to rebuild everything. Or of it is connected to CAN maybe just keep the board with its higo connectors.

I took out the screws, used a cutter on the sealing and a heat gun ... nothing moves! Any ideas how to get this thing apart?

Its nearly impossible to open the taillight. And it is definitely impossible to salvage the board and connector+cables.

Its not just some glue whick makes it hard. It almost looks like Stark molded the plastic form into the aluminum. All the cables and about 8 mm of the board have been enclosed by solid pvc.

Luckily i had access to an already broken taillight. I didn't want to believe Stark uses CAN for its light, but here is the proof.

Hardly anyone uses it??? Must be a Euro thing.

That’s all one needs for this woods oriented bike. So happy to see it was the default config for US bikes (though Stark did throw in all the add on light hardware to retrofit. Bet no one has). Very sleek efficient form factor. Way better than the KTM EXC appendages that came on my 350 or 500. Perfect for the enduro/dual sport bike that it is. …Doesn't catch on anything, nothing to snap off when I take a tumble, meets all legal requirements in my state.

Hi,

Good Information. Would it be possible to make a closer picture of the microcontroller on the pcb? Would be interesting. If it is CAN it might be interesting to listen 😂.

Thanks

Huh, I was wondering why I saw the VCU listing firmware versions for things like the front/rear light and map switch. I guess pretty much everything on the bike is powered by a custom circuit with a microcontroller and Stark firmware? It would make sense that most things communicate via CAN since thats already the standard and we know its used elsewhere (like the charger communication for example). Does seem very over-engineered...

I really like my stock tail light, they did a good job in integrating that light as a small unobtrusive fixture. I would like to see it quite a bit brighter, but until that happens I'm really happy with it.
