Stark Varg insurance in the Bay Area

Ive never had any issues insuring my 2021 300 xcw. Using foremost through farmers which costs $75/year for ful replacement cost of the bike plus a small amount of liability. I didn't even think about the stark Varg being an issue with insurance but so far no one can pull up the VIN. Tried Geico, progressive and Foremost. Foremost said I would need a full motorcycle policy and M endorsement on my license. This is crazy! What are you guys using locally here in the bay area?

Thanks

Do you have an off-road policy? I'm waiting to get a response from a different agent tomorrow but the pricing I got from them and Geico are through the roof. Like $400+ per year. Not even worth it.

Could be our locations are different so they have varying policies and pricing available.

Thanks for the reply.

Just looking at it now, its listed under Motorcycle/ ATV Policy. It was only $180 a year. I got it for the sole reason of it possibly being stolen. I live in the city and dirt bikes are a hot commodity for thieves.

I just got a call back from Progressive apologizing for not being able to help. They said anything that doesn't come up in the pick list they can't offer comprehensive insurance on, only liability. This is also what farmers/foremost said. Geico will insure it but it's so expensive I would never do it. Oh well. Guess I gotta go without insurance.

That's so odd... Varg was on the pick list on the online selection for progressive for me. I've got full coverage for about 40 bucks a year. And that's with the $300,000 combined along with my other motorcycles and The RZR, and they're all considered street legal as far as progressive is concerned.

Is your Varg licensed for the road? Maybe the laws and coverage are different where you are, but to be considered street legal here they must be licensed and registered --and in the case of a claim insurance might not cover otherwise.

OHV coverage can be different in many states but that is not the same as street legal at least in states where I have lived.

It is road registered. As is the RZR. I actually registered it all online

One thought just occured to me that maybe because I just bought the bike and don't even have a sticker yet that somehow the new VIN hasn't fully gone through the system at the DMV. Is that even a possibility? In the past this has never been an issue. Hell, even getting my kit Shelby cobra wasn't this hard to insure. Good ol' California, wants everyone to go electric but makes it really difficult and expensive.

edit: nope. just got my green sticker so tha'ts not it.

Latest update. I tried filling out the info on Progressive's website and I had no issues. I'm not sure why talking to a real living person would be so difficult.

I had the same issue with Foremost but Progressive had no problems insuring mine.

Took about 10 minutes to insure mine on the Progressive website. We already have two ATVs on a Progressive policy, so I logged in, clicked "Add/Get a Quote", typed in the VIN and it popped up as a Varg. It gave me the deductible and other policy options, and gave me a quote. Clicked submit to add it. It added $27 a year to my policy for full coverage. Amazing! I know it was only that cheap because it added it onto an existing offroad vehicle policy with them, but still, I expected it to be a bit over $100/yr. I don't know what they would have charged if it was my only offroad vehicle with them. Most of our insurance is through State Farm and I asked them for a quote as well, even though I knew it would be more. State Farm quoted $425 - 518 year depending on deductible of $1,000 or $500. And that was for a simple, full coverage, offroad-only quote.

Background on why I even had Progressive for the ATVs rather than State Farm like all of our home and other policies: Years ago when we replaced our ATV with a different one, I'd insured it through State Farm just like the previous one. But, a few weeks later they came back as the underwriter saw our ATVs were registered as both offroad and onroad (offroad sticker and plate) which is common practice here because technically, the mountain forest service roads are roads, not trails, and Fish&Game prefer to see them plated. Statefarm said their underwriter said they would only insure them as a road driven vehicle and so over $1,000/year rather than the $120/yr like the previous one had been. They had no explanation on why the change and if it would effect all their other ATV and UTVs they have insured since everyone registers them as both offroad and onboard here. So I moved to Progressive for the ATVs and now added the Varg.
