Suspension Linkage - EXR / MXR Differences

Does anyone know if the EXR and MXR rear suspension linkage arms are identical or are the linkages different by model.
 
EX/MX same linkage, EXR/MXR same linkage.

So with the MXR having a shorter shock than the MX, does the MXR just use more spring preload or something to get the geometry back to normal, or is the frame actually different(lower upper shock mounting position)?

The MX and MXR used different trilinks and also the MXR had some slight clearance differences on the RBH for the shock.
 
Would an SM shock be a direct bolt-on to an MXR or EXR for a conversion to an SMR or are there also linkage and geometry differences? I assume the shock would significantly lower the rear of the bike ( if it fits ) and the forks would need to be adapted to match.

The SM shock should bolt in. The only difference linkage wise is we did change the MX/SM/EX trilink when when we started the R bikes.
 
There are A-bike rear shocks and linkages.
And there are R-bikes rear shocks and linkages.

The frames and swing arms are the same, so you can move the shock from one bike to another as long as the linkage also gets moved with it.

Actually we recently figured out/realized there is a difference in how the rear bulkhead is machined for the rear shock between A pack bikes and R pack bikes. This was brought to light in this thread;

@OneLapper also recently confirmed this when trying to install a MXR shock on his 17 MX. Not sure how this will work out if trying to put an MX style shock on an MXR, perhaps the reservoir will hit the lower portion of the subframe.

Wow, this is definitely a discovery.
 
Thanks everyone for the feedback and info.

I have shied away from buying an SM because of all the taxes, annual registration fees, annual EV fees, and annual insurance cost of adding another street legal bike. That might still be the way to go. Or I'll just continue to swap the wheels on the EXR and ride a tall quasi-SM. :unsure:
