EX street tire question

Hello, I’m considering putting more street friendly tires on the EX stock rims (not interested in Supermoto wheels at this point). The Dunlop Trailmax Mission recommends rims that are slightly larger (front and back) than the EX stock rims. Recommended front 2.15 but stock rim is 1.6. Questions: is that difference enough to avoid this tire? Will it cause a problem? Thanks in advance.

I would think it will be ok, but perhaps you could contact a Dunlop rep or tech for more info?

The Avon Trailriders are wonderfull tyres on these bikes if you do streetriding and some gravel. Even did 2 SM sessions on it and was remarkably good.

Also the Kenda K761 is quite a capable tyre for these kind of machines. Did some touring and Adventure touring with both of the above on our Beta RR's and on both tarmac, gravel and rocks plenty of grip.

I have a Maxxis M6034 that seemed ok. I ended up ordering SM wheels though because I wanted to be able to change quickly to MX tyres/wheels without having to pull the tyre off the rim

I ride in the rain and wanted a high silica tread for that reason, which also tend to be really good dry pavement tires. I bought a set of Continental Trail Attack 3 tires and have been very happy with them, however I'm not sure they are making them anymore. They have been out of stock for a long time. Hopefully there is a similar alternative.

Hi, do you run them tubeless ? And which size are they 150/70 18 rear and 90/90 21

The Metzeler tire is tubeless but the stock rim isn't, so we need to use a tube, i buy the Michelin reinforce model for both wheels.

Rear: 140/80/18
Front: 90/90/21

This set up is amazing for me

You can't rum them tubeless on the OEM wheels.

150 is way too wide. Will do very funny things to the rounding of the tyre. I would go for 120/130 wide although i have fitted some 110's on there.
I was planning to mount Michelin Anakee Adventure tires, sizes 150/70 and 90/90. Do you think the 150 is too wide? Would 140 be the maximum?

Anakee adventure is most of a road than offroad tire, i will choose the Anakee (not adventure)
i dont know your specific use of the bike but keep that in mind... the karoo 4 are pretty good in both terrains, BMW and KTM are choosing them for their new models so...

140 is the enduro standard, i recommend to stick to that

if you want a very good offroad tire but with better capabilities on road than a 100% enduro tire i recommend you the Michelin Desert race, expensive but top quality

140 is indeed Enduro standard. However not all 140 are equal.
140 Enduro tyres are made for 2.15 rims. 140 "street/allroad/Adventure" often for 3.50-4.00 making them a less proper fit on the 2.15 Stark. A 110 to 130 will be a better fit.

the 140 karoo 4 is more narrow than the metzeler enduro stock, and both are 140, thats why im recommending him to get that, a 110/130 will be extremely narrow for varg power

I've had a 110-80-19 on tarmac and you'd be amazed by the grip you get even on 80 h

Am I a psycho for not having an issue with the factory 6 days after a 1000km? (Mostly street) ha ha
jajajaja they are pretty good, i got them new, just 100km because i change them for the karoo 4 but i think i will mount them again because i will buy a full SM set up wheels next month, so now i will have the best of both worlds

My plan is to have an SM setup as well, but don't particularly want to go down the spoked 17 route... thinking a sports bike 17 would be nice (and tubeless)

you can have spoked tubeless too, and a sport bike 17 would be good if weight isnt too much, or maybe is less, i honestly dont know

I remember this conversation coming up years ago. Things might have changed since...
On average an SM 17 was between 0.5 and 1.5kg heavier than the equivalent sport bike 17. Tubeless SMs, more so.
Ultimately, for me, it's about aesthetics. I want my bike to stand out a bit.
