Alta Range: MX > EX > EXR

I pretty much always ride in Map 3. Stock gearing, but I put an 18 inch wheel on it. My BARF post from a couple days ago: Hollister yesterday, Eric, SpeedKills and me, three (3) Altas, an EX, MXR and an MX. We turned heads in our silence. Range is always the question. Eric quit at about two...

    How Far Have You Gone?

I just put on the third rear and second front tires; Metzler Six Days Extreme, as recomended by Eric. Also updated the software. Two things to change the range capability. Yesterday we rode Hollister, the ususl loops. Peets, Jays, the Renz. Didn’t get to Troll. Eric has a new Alta EX. He...

    How Far Have You Gone?

Eric just updated my software and new tires. He says it will increase my range. Ride to depleation test upcoming. Last highest recorded was 43 miles. I think i can beat that.

How do you use your Alta?

Typical: unplug, lube chain, load, drive a half hour to Metcalf (or an hour to Hollister), ride for 40 miles, three hours of single or near singletrack, load, drive home, unload, plug in, open beer... repeat. Occasionally I wash it. Once properly, actually, when it went in for one year service/...

    Share your OTD Cost

Ha! Mine was the first (Eric’s doesn’t really count) and it was $16,365; 2017 MX #000019 from SF Alta, October 25, 2016. I just couldn’t wait. Just to be fair, the Alta guys have given me a bunch of stuff to make feel better. The FasterFaster tee shirt is really good for going to the supermarket...

My decal graphics from Limited Decal

Nice. I only have BARF stickies on my bikes. I would put altaownersforum.com stickies on Shiftless, and perhaps Zippy (E36 ZHP), if they were available.

Riding a 30 mile poker run tomorrow on my EXR

I try to record the mileage and hours most everytime I ride. Yesterday was 31 miles, 2.5 hrs, a quarter tank of electrons remaining. It is telling data. I have new underwear, er, firmware, so I am hot to see what is different. Yeah, I have new underwear too. Oh yeah, I am coming to understand...

Owner's Review 2019 Alta EXR Ride Review: Midnight ride under the stars.

Cool story bro. OK if I copy some bits and post them on BARF & SBR? Linky to here too. Maybe ADVRider to get some mileage.

An Open Petition to Alta to let us create our own maps (and to modify Map 3)

Sally the wifey has a Whill electric wheelchair that is crazy to drive in map 4, especially with an iPhone. Just say’n. I ride the Alta in map 3 pretty exclusively. Just trails though.

    New Alta article, any corrections?

Re the e ride... I rode one. They are cute. And cuddly. The Alta is a weapon. The KTM is a toy. Nice toy. Awesome beginner bike.

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

Interesting how the remaining charge is calculated. No wonder I did not think it behaved linearly. Good riding with you, Steve. Eric and I did 27 miles before he went into blinky mode. I still have a quarter bar graph left. I think I am lighter on the throttle than you guys.

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

Ha! I always run the cages down to empty. I have seen "0" miles to empty many times. I have run out of gas once, a long time ago. A long time ago, when I used to wrench, the fuel gauge in my 1971 BMW 2002 was transmiting actual fuel level in the tank; I had to remove the float assembly for some...

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

I’ve always been skeptical of the indicated charge. I do not usually turn the key off. I have only run the battery down all the way once when it was downhill back to the truck. I did 43 miles that time, though there are a lot of varibles. Am I correct in that the indicated remaining charge is...

    Chain Slider failures

SN# 019, 2992 miles, 200 hours, all good. My chain is fine too. 'Tis because I go round in circles in a parking lot at 15 mph. That and Troll Trail.

Ty Tremaine and Lyndon Poskitt to race in the Erzberg Rodeo

Nope. I rode with Eric today. Josh is riding a factory bike.

I think so. Eric left two MX’s in France, numbers 005 and 022. He has a EX now. And an SM...

240v female to 110v male adapter

DigiNow, DigiNow inc. make stuff for Zero. They are local to me so I could prolly get their help putting something together for my bike... The dude I talked to at Laguna for the Refuel thing thought you should carry onboard charging. For my dirtbike, I'd rather not. But hey.

240v female to 110v male adapter

Ha! I too made a 220 adapter from Home Depot parts. I too screwed up the first time. Mine was dumber, using the female 220 instead of the male... Easier to see the mistake though. Easy to remedy.
