STARK VARG (Something new is coming!)

The Alta configured the battery and location for the lowest and most central possible CG. That meant placing it further forward and resulted in a 50/50 weight distribution (most ICE bikes are around 55-57/65-63). The Varg pack is slimmer but much taller with a good portion of the pack high in...

STARK VARG (Something new is coming!)

Not skeptical, just a lot of experience trying to do the same thing. The prototypes are the same as "Factory/Works" bikes with total attention to detail, non-production parts, and hundreds of hours of "tuning" aimed at making those two guys happy. Don't trust what any paid rider has to say...

STARK VARG (Something new is coming!)

There's so much more to handling than just geometry. The current crop of gas MX bikes are all within mms of each other yet they all handle differently. I'm betting the production Varg will not weigh under 260lbs with decent tires and tubes. It'll still suffer from thermal issues on a hot day...

STARK VARG (Something new is coming!)

All I can say regarding the Varg is that if it looks too good to be true it probably isn't true. The numbers I see just don't add up. If it handles, it's probably going to be a bit better than the Alta when the production bike is released. I just don't see any game changing technology on the...

My Alta won't start (Negative fail)

Wow, another one. It might just be a statistical glitch, but doesn't it seem the rate of major failures is starting to accelerate?

    Sold New 2019 EXR

That kind of money for a bike that more likely than not will develop an un-repairable issue within the next five years is amazing.

    Alta battery pack rebalance capability

The cause if the imbalance is not of issue, my question is regarding experience with getting the module to re-balanced itself after repair simply using the BMS. For example, after a code 35/36 repair where one or more p-groups deviated by the rest by a tenth or so volt. My experience is that...

    Alta battery pack rebalance capability

Hello, this question is directed to the few individuals who have actually repaired a code 35/36 module/pack. How successful were you in getting the onboard BMS to re-balance the bad P-group(s) after the repair was made? My experience has been that without "bench balancing" to within a few...

    My Output Shaft Snapped.

Use an air or electric impact gun with a rag between the gears. Should spin the nut right off unless Alta used some kind of locktight. In that case, might need to apply some heat to the nut first.

    Electric RMZ

I blew up two 400 plus amp ANT BMSs on the Yamaha conversion. I was pulling over 500 amps. I bypassed it and wired it so that it'll still disconnect the charger if it sees a high P-group.

    Code 110 Charging Stopped

What I've found is that there's a sneak path somewhere to the safety ground. Try disconnecting the safety ground. Kinda defeats the purpose somewhat, but it's a clue.

    Mileage and Range Expectations

From my research the irreversible calendar/storage loss isn't that much, maybe 2 %/year. SOC storage voltage doesn't change things much, however, it's much more dangerous from a safety standpoint at higher voltages should some cell decide to short. Storage temperature does make a difference...

    Mileage and Range Expectations

It's all in the right wrist. Fast guys will get poor range no matter what because they're going faster! In other words, the guy that's 15-20% faster will probably get 30-40% less range as the power required is more exponential (as opposed to linier). They accelerate harder/faster and reach...

Flux Performance - eMX startup from Europe

I see a couple of other problems that I feel impacted Alta's sales. First, they tried to take a bike with significant range limitations but which was marginally acceptable for some closed track applications like MX and repackage it as a SM or enduro bike, both applications where the typical...

Flux Performance - eMX startup from Europe

Does that apply to MXGP as well? I watch every race and it sure looks like those tracks are just as fast if not faster than the typical "National" track here in the states. The lack of grooming might slow things down a bit for the average MXGP rider but the top guys are putting in lap times...

Flux Performance - eMX startup from Europe

I can assure you, with a Pro or fast A rider the MXR won't make a full race. Maybe some "pretty quick" riders can make a moto under ideal circumstances (cold pack, mild day, hard pack track, short moto, etc), but that's about it. If any Pros out in Alta land can send evidence to the contrary...

Flux Performance - eMX startup from Europe

That wasn't my point . . . . . which was that a stock KTM (and all the other major mfg MX bikes for that matter) can go thirty minutes plus two laps with National level caliber rider on a National caliber track in any weather condition and be relatively competitive. An Alta can't even make 4...

Flux Performance - eMX startup from Europe

I agree, us vet guys can get a full moto at what we consider "full power". However, when any builder states or implies that their bike (or planned bike) is/will be competitive with the current crop of MX gas bikes without qualification (like saying race competitive for most vets and C/B riders...

Owner's Review My 2018 MXR was just delivered. First ride thoughts....

Multitool can update the firmware, but unless the firmware altered the various maps (it did a little bit between some versions) you can't change the map parameters (ie: power setting, decel, max RPM, rev acceleration, deadbands, etc). Once upon a time there was a big call within the...

    AJ Catanzaro

Looks like the same track (only greener) where he rode the Alta in the other videos. It's a really tight, short, jumpy track. The kind of track that doesn't put a big load on the battery pack so it'll go quite a few laps without thermal limiting. However, I'm pretty sure when AJ puts the bike...
