    KTM65 Electric Conversion

Actual testing is always better than mathematical or analytical analysis. Good work. When I was testing copper fuse links I was shocked as to how much current a tiny cross section of copper wire can take before heating to the point of melting. In addition to X-Sectional area, length and...

    KTM65 Electric Conversion

My experience is that 1mm solid copper wire at the lengths here (about 18mm) should be good for way more than 30 amps. More like 200. A direct short in any particular series string can easily produce this current.

    KTM65 Electric Conversion

Essentially a 20 or 21s18p pack, correct? That's very close to what I'm building now for my full sized conversion. However, I'm not expecting 630 amps from 18p of VTC6s. Not without massive voltage drop anyway. The key will be the cell interconnections (to reduce resistance) and thermal...

    Cogging noise at faster speeds?

Yea, a couple of the motors I've seen were obtained in the "snatch and grab" of the office areas in those final days. Who knows what/who were messing with them, lol. BTW, the "inner" bearing (item 20) is actually the inner race for the one roller bearing (item 19). I guess because with a...

    let’s do this

Four strokes have traditionally had a traction advantage simply due to the longer period between power pulses (compared to a two stroke). In between pulses the tire can regain grip if necessary. Tire manufactures have known this for a long time and have slowly optimized for the four stroke...

    Cogging noise at faster speeds?

Ok, got it. Two bearings but not on the same shaft. Now I understand what you were saying. I thought maybe there was a revision that had two bearings on one side of the rotor shaft. Could the motor vender have changed that bearing without telling you guys? Was there any testing or other...

    Cogging noise at faster speeds?

So there's a design with two bearings on the one bearing plate (the gear side of the motor), an inner and outer? Maybe I'm getting the part description wrong, but this is what I'm callling the bearing plate.

    Cogging noise at faster speeds?

Rashid, Can you check to see if there's an EO existing on that bearing? The one you described is an open (well, sealed on one side only) bearing like my early 17. From the half dozen or so motors I've looked at most are of the totally sealed type and not a roller but ball bearing. Also, I'm...

    Cogging noise at faster speeds?

Update. I pulled the pinion gear and can see that my early 17 used the open/splash lubricated right side roller bearing. I must therefore conclude that the sealed bearing is the preferred "should be" configuration. I believe this change order also revised the bearing type from a roller to...

    Cogging noise at faster speeds?

My 17 was making the same noise. I pulled both covers to feel the motor and countershaft bearings. The right side motor bearing is definitely loose. I'm not surprised, those bearings are pretty tiny for the loads they see. I also know there was an engineering change to that right side...

There were lots of symptoms as you mentioned, but what was the disease? Why did everyone split? Why couldn't Alta make a compelling business case that could convince investors to hang on even in light of some conflicts? If it was a case of initial investors simply tired of waiting and...

Live StreamInterview with Alta Motors Co-Founder Marc Fenigstein TODAY

I didn't get my question in until late so it wasn't addressed, but I was curious what battery format and chemistry Marc had in mind when he stated that "now" he thought an electric could be made that was weight/power/range competitive with gas in MX (I assume he meant semi-pro/local pro racing)...
