    Replacing bad battery cells

There's probably three or four of us out in Alta land working on a cell replacement process with the common theme being we're all looking for bad modules to experiment with. Of course, if the battery is bad enough that it'll only charge 50% you've got almost nothing to lose. My approach would...

    Alta Multitool Download

Is there a users manual? If not, once I get my hands on the software I'd be willing to write one if there's enough interest. I've written many manuals for Haynes Automotive Publications, so I'm not too bad.

My quest for a perfect Alta Redshift motocross suspension (Part 1)

I wouldn't be too sure about 7.0 being way off. My suspension simulator shows with that rider weight it'll still be around 90mm race sag with about 5mm preload. That's in the ballpark if you plan on hucking big ass jumps.

It appears so. There's 21 bars to each module and 84 total bars. We know our batteries have 4 modules composed of 21 parallel groups of 6 18650 cells each, so that jives with the screenshot. So looking at the data that particular pack has BOTH module level imbalance and Parallel cell group...

Cool, what software are you using? The one module (mod 0) will probably never balance, the BMS simply can't make up that much in a reasonable time. When my pack sat for over 3 months two modules self discharged about .1V more than the other two. Even after multiple charge/discharge cycles it...

Wow, how do you know it's exactly 125mV? Did you disassemble the pack?

NO bike is immune to bad cells, contactors, or wire bonds. The likelihood is smaller in the packs that didn't have the latent defect(s) from the factory but there're all still vulnerable. Haven't heard of any electronic issues inside our packs but that's a concern as well going forward.

They're pretty resilient, but if it's got any iron in the slag it can actually RUST in your eye! That's where the trouble can start. Anyone who's worked with metal knows what I'm talking about. Hope that's not the case with Bionicvef. Thank god I wear glasses. If not I'd probably be blind...

    I'm curious what that big chunk of billet alum is for. . . . pack mass model . . . . chassis mount for static testing . . . . ?

    KTM Electric

My preference is using an ACPM motor like Alta's. Light, powerful, efficient and with the right controller capable of a wide torque/speed range.

Those kind of prices will only encourage someone to offer an alternative. For example, it would be EASY to splash a mold for the side number plates and then start producing them in fiberglass or carbon fiber. At $200 a set (ebay price) it leaves lots of room for a much lower price. All the...

    Bladder conversion done differently

Honestly, I really like it. It's still firm with my valving but it seems to be more compliant to small stuff and square edge hits. I've got a stocker, my Frankenshock and a Trax shock, time to do some side-by-side.

    I own 2018 MX229! Apparently Alta's Production/Inventory Control system never heard of FIFO. Lol . . . .

    Protected Throttle Idea

For sure very doable. However, the idea advanced is a simple mechanical solution that can be done today without further knowledge. In fact, one could profile the "cams" on one or both conventional throttles to make the turn rate variable (non-linier) similar to software. I like mechanical...

    Protected Throttle Idea

Here's an idea I'm pursuing. Essentially I'm creating a "remote" throttle sensor. This works to both protect the Halls Effect sensor (inside the throttle) and allows for custom "turn rates" depending on the ratio between the two standard cable throttles needed for the conversion. As shown...

That bike suggests they (Alta) were just "throwing bikes together" towards the end with whatever components they had available. A box of chocolates?

That sucks! Looks like I'm SOL using a newer QT throttle. Unless there's a way to recalibrate the system using software. Throttle at zero, hit "set" wide open, hit "set", system interpolates everything in between, done. I guess I could move the Alta Throttle somewhere in the frame and...

I've got one of those early models and would like to upgrade to the "quick turn" throttle. Are all the QT throttles of the "current" design?
