    EXR Tires and Tire Pressures

Yes, I'm afraid this little tipover took me about an hour to undo. I unloaded the duffle bags and picked the bike up, but I couldn't get the bike moving in the sand (....keeping this thread somewhat on topic since we're discussing how differnt tires work in various conditions). The rear...

    EXR Tires and Tire Pressures

I hesitate to recommend any tires that I haven't personally used and seeing your comment of "mostly pavement" versus exclusively pavement, the tire I have had great success with is the Pirelli MT90. It has a street tire profile, yet has a lot more tread than a pure street tire. You could...

    EXR Tires and Tire Pressures

Not intending to be contrary, however I don't think a 150 will work well with the stock EXR rim width. The rear rim on the SM is probably a 4.50 x 17 and is made for the wide tire. If you can get 150 mounted, the stock dirt wheel will pinch it in so far that you probably can't use more than...

    EXR Tires and Tire Pressures

My preferred all around dual sport tire is still the Pirelli MT21. I have these on my rally bike and my KTM 640 Adventure. I put a smaller size (used) set on my EXR and they worked well. 120/80 x 18 on the back and 90/90 x 21 on the front. Reasonably good and very predictable road...

Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro - Electric

Top speed of 5 mph so you would really need good technique or a lot of grass in the rear bagger.

Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro - Electric

I like the design and the 2 acres per charge. The price is pretty steep though. More than double the equivalent electric start, EFI gas engine model. $3999 versus $1849.

    EXR overcenter kickstand makes me...

I am tall enough that I have all of my weight off the bike when I'm getting on and off so the sidestand hasn't been a problem for me. My suspension is also a good bit stiffer than stock so the unloaded bike may sit higher. I'll trade someone the rear axle triangle from my MXR for the...

The Bitchinest Electric Streetbike Open House July 27th 12 to 4PM

So, I guess you are telling me that as a 6'- 3" rider on an ALTA EXR dual sport my Cd and my A are not optimal for long range at highway speeds.

The Bitchinest Electric Streetbike Open House July 27th 12 to 4PM

Same for me. 2,552 miles and 729 recharges on the ALTA is a bit too far for a one day event. I am interested to hear about the new Lightning street bikes and especially interested in the real world range and charge times. Their marketing info is claiming some pretty good numbers.

24 Hours of Starvation Ridge in WA -- October 26 & 27, 2019 (new dates)

It takes a significant change to riding style and it will slow your lap times a bit, but you can help your range by staying off the brakes as much as possible and using the regen "engine braking". I have never done any controlled experiments but I'm guessing at least a 20% range improvement...

If someone produced a replacement battery pack, would you buy one?

The additional issue which I don't think we knew about when this poll was started is that some of the failure modes for even the newer models are occurring inside the battery pack assembly. If we had a source for additional batteries it would mitigate this problem until (and if) there are...

    2019 NE 24hr Challenge July 20th & 21st 2019, Team AltaOwnersForum.com is Official!

I'm not racing with you guys, but I would strongly encourage this plan. You want to be sure each rider gets at least one full lap in the good daylight hours regardless of battery range. This will be even more important for the guys racing at Starvation Ridge in the PNW. They won't have...

    Sold Alta Rear Hub

I have found the easiest way to use a KTM front hub or wheel on the EXR is to use the ALTA spacers from my EXR wheel and make a 7.0 mm spacer for the brake caliper. There have been several threads discussing options and I think the consensus is the caliper spacer is easier and stronger than...

Would you Pull the Trigger on a New MXR

I was in this exact same situation and it was my money. I bought the MXR for singletrack to add to the EXR already being used for aggressive dual-sporting, grocery store runs, etc. There is definitely some risk and some limitation with these bikes, but the capability and fun can't be beat...
