Fod, do you have a IR temp gun? That will help locating the source. If it smells, its hot, and the IR gun might easily locate the connector. Sounds like this a first for an Alta, at least on this forum.

I haven't heard of an A pack being replaced with a R pack, but I don't see why it couldn't have happened. I'm assuming the original battery had an issue and it was replaced with the R pack, which might have been the only battery available. I wonder if Alta actually manufactured two different...

So far this bike has been rock solid. It did have the inop water pump when I purchased it, but a new ACM fixed that. Oh, and the halo on the display is wonky. I'm determined to use it and enjoy it till I can't. I really like this bike.

I talked to my dealer today. No parts, and no confirmation that their orders are being fulfilled. But..... he said they know of other dealers that are getting parts. So, it should be soon when some of us forum members start getting news and or parts.

Ah, you would think so. I did replace the bearings right after the water crossing but there was no water in the hub at all.

At about 10 hours I took the race seals off the bearings and packed them with water proof grease. I was shocked that the left bearing had no visible grease in the ball cage. It was still good enough to use at that point but the damage was done. The grease job just prolonged the replacement by...

Since I was a kid I would tear my motorcycles down to the frame every winter, clean, inspect, lubricate, etc. It just seems like the natural thing to do. I pulled the swing arm off to inspect the bearings for water. This bike gets pressure washed more often than any of my other bikes did...

Last night I tore the Alta down in order to pull the forks and shock. I sent them off to Brian at N2Dirt to install the Dal Soggio Spheres, respring and revalve the forks, then install a bladder kit (and revalve) the shock. I'll keep track of the upgrade, adjustments, thoughts, issues...

Yes, exactly what Philip said. Each team has up to six bikes so there's plenty of time to recharge the bikes and relax between each person's run. I'm hoping we can get 6 Alta's together for this race. The goal is to finish the event, and be the first all electric team to compete.
