Yet another CRF 250 Build but its my first so... ;)

The battery is definitely the greatest challenge in the process. Attached is what I have come up with as the easiest configuration for a drop in/quick change 20s 12p 72v 50Ah battery. This drops right in my 2011 CRF frame. No grinding and no cutting required.

Yet another CRF 250 Build but its my first so... ;)

The VESC based controllers are very easy to program. I've personally programed several VESC Controllers/Brushless DC motors. I hope Votol moves to a VESC control in the future.

    2023 Honda CRF250R with QS138 70H V3 Motor and EM260S Controller

I'm getting closer to the final specifications for the Amorge battery. Keeping simplicity in mind, I'm leaning towards Molicel P42A, 20s12p, BMS mounted outside the 6.25" x 7.25" x 13" steel case. Acheiving this small size casr reqires the individual cell holder be eliminated in favor of gluing...

    2023 Honda CRF250R with QS138 70H V3 Motor and EM260S Controller

Hi Don, I just order the battery switch and the resistor. E&C have a 2 to 4 week lead-time for the QS 138 kits. I'm trying to gather up all the peripheral components during the wait Thanks again, Dave

    2023 Honda CRF250R with QS138 70H V3 Motor and EM260S Controller

Hello Don, I couldn't help but notice how you've fabricated a custom cover over the top of the battery. Was this to create room to clear the battery? Have you relocated the stock front seat attachment point? And, can you share your source of supply for the power switch? Thanks for everything...

Yet another CRF 250 Build but its my first so... ;)

Thank you Don, Bayodome, and fmxxx666 for your encouraging words and concerns. I plan to use the CRFE for 1/2 motocross and 1/2 single track. Range is a big issue. I'd like to pump up the AH as much as possible. Power wise I'm happy with 30KW. I'll just ride it like my 125cc and 150cc...

Yet another CRF 250 Build but its my first so... ;)

Hello Don and Bayodome! You both have contributed a wealth of knowledge and experience. Bayodome brought up some valid points. The 5.7 x 6.0 x 17.00+/_ form factor is very interesting. Your YZ is a very clean build. I'm curious, Is there enough clearance in front of the battery to fit the...

Yet another CRF 250 Build but its my first so... ;)

I'm going to gently remove as little material as possible. If the material removal causes any strength concerns, I plan to CNC machine and weld replacement pieces. I'll post images as we progress with the project.

Yet another CRF 250 Build but its my first so... ;)

The plan is to remove as little material as possible. Once the battery arrives I'll carefully fit it to the bike. I want to avoid welding on the aluminum chassis. My fear is the welding will change the heat treatment and soften the aluminum.

Yet another CRF 250 Build but its my first so... ;)

Thank you Don for all the wonderful information. Now I have to figure out how to get the most power and range into the fairly small space I have to work with. It is going to take some creative fabrication. Looks like I'll need to reduce the size of the shock tower cross member and the wishbone...

Thank you Don for all of this great information. I'll digest this and write a battery build specification for the bike I'm building.

I stripped the chassis down to the needed components. Next comes the measurement process. I plan to CNC cut some full sized foam mockups for the motor and battery case. Does anyone have a 3D CAD model or CAD drawings for the QS138 V3 motor?

Hello Guys, I absolutely love the performance you are achieving with the CRFE! Today I purchased a 2011 CRF 250F. Photos and specs for the Bob Casper CRFE build would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to learn from the Don Cox/Bob Casper inventory of firsthand experiences. -- Dave
