Typically, electric motors do not need gears. The only ones that do need gears have undesirable torque characteristics, such as a flat torque curve. I think a bicycle power in a full-size bike would be very boring. I would talk to @DonCox if you want to electrify your YZ250F.

Looks like he just drilled through the original inserts and the fender. The bottom would look exactly like it used to look when new. Almost. Except the bottom now has not the bolt heads but (hopefully) locking nuts.

It depends on your riding. If you are traction-limited, then more traction would give you a better acceleration. I primarily ride motocross, short 15-minute motos, so range and fuel economy is not my main concern.
