    Steg Pegz!

First ride with Stegs today (further back and two pucks) - so different and so much better. My whole upper body could relax. I spent an hour and a half plouging through rutted sand and piled up shingle. My arms should be properly beaten up. Instead, they're in so much better shape. I'm sold.

    New VARG Software Update.

All fixed. I left the bike in neutral for a few minutes then it indicated an update was available. Did the update and now I have crawl mode.

    New VARG Software Update.

I'm honestly more excited by the changed timing for idle and shutdown. Now I can stop for a snack without the app spliting my ride in two. My app updated overnight to 1.0.161. That gave me the changes to the app, eg the adjustable idle delay. However, I don't have the crawl mode. I checked...

    Steg Pegz!

Stegs for my Stark arrived yesterday. I'm yet to test ride them, coz life, but without them my elbows are getting trashed. So here's hoping they lock me to the bike.

    Update with reverse/crawl mode

In the app, go to settings then "Your Bike". The installed version number is listed there.

    Maximum Scramble Range

I use Strava on my personal phone. The GPS tracking through that consistently reads 5% longer distance than the Stark app. Range is so variable with terrrain. I can be ploughing through sand and shingle at the coast and get 35 km. I can be cruising fire roads and get 65 km.

DIY maintenance and safety for EVs

It should do. The whole point of an EV contactor is to make sure that high voltages are not exposed under everything else is connected and powered up and working correctly.

AMA and Electric Motorcycles in AMA races

Is it me or does the Honda CR-E prototype look thrown together? There's exposed wires, exposed coolant tubes, some bent aluminium brackets, and too many zip ties for my liking. That just doesn't look durable.

    Battery Cooling

The Stark has an "Active Cooling Charging" mode where the fan & water pump run whether needed or not, specifically for "charging between motos to drop the temperature as much as possible before going on the next ride". They have also recommended misting the battery case. I've not had the...

DIY maintenance and safety for EVs

The Stark is a different level of quality and safety to a Talaria or similar. For example, the 400V battery in the Stark has an internal contactor that doesn't turn on until the battery receives the right commands over the CAN Bus. That should make sure the external terminals aren't powered up...

How long are we expecting the Stark battery to last (long term)

Let's look at the long term - I brought a power station in 2019. What I can buy now for the same money is half the price and half the weight.

    Stark Suggestions

In one of Anton's interviews he talked about just having an e-brake for the rear, ie no mechanical brake just braking using the motor regen. There's advantages and disadvantages to that. On the plus side: - Less unsprung weight so the rear suspension can work better - I've a Zerode MTB that...

How long are we expecting the Stark battery to last (long term)

It's crazy just how much battery prices are going down this year. They've been trending down over the long term but this year is nuts. So by the time we come to replacing batteries, they'll be even cheaper.

    Top speed Stark Varg

Might want to change the rear tyre - mine is stock and has an "M" speed rating. That's only rated for 130 kmh.

    Top speed Stark Varg

He's getting the same top speed with 50 hp or 80 hp. That implies the motor is hitting its limit on motor rpm, rather than the bike being limited by power. The stock gears are too low for speed runs. That's what we'd expect for a dirt bike. I don't know of anyone who has set up a Varg with tall...

    Stark Varg Sound Maker ?

I agree with this being silly. If other riders can't hear a quiet bike, that's coz their bike is too loud. The solution isn't to make quiet bikes louder, it's to make loud bikes quieter. I've just been for a ride today on our south coast - beaches and shingle with mixed access - lots of...

Is there any reason I can run 10-40w oil in the varg?

The forum member asking Stark support was me. They said GL-4 or GL-5. Both kinds will work fine.

after market clutch and brake levers

I asked Stark Support what levers fit. Their reply:

    Stark Varg Sound Maker ?

Just ziptie a bluetooth speaker to the bike, then play whatever tunes suit you. Given my riding style, I'd be best with the Benny Hill tune.

Unbreakable brake levers - which ones fit?

    I have wrap-around hand-guards. I still break levers.
