That sounds like a serious firmware bug rather than an actual mode setting and should be reported. If the firmware has a bug like that it could be very dangerous. Do you have an EX or MX?

Yes it is not for everybody that is for sure. My gas bikes are across the country now and I don't use them very often but I still like them. The Varg works for me with the kind of riding I do now mostly the slow gnarl and enduro.

Usually there are two copies of firmware (I am assuming you are talking about the bike firmware). One which is loaded and one (or more) that is saved. Typically a saved copy is updated. So your bike should always work. If there is something wrong with the phone and it is not getting the right...

One thing to also consider besides the added protection, is if you ride in hot weather and the advantage of the AXP and other non-stock plates for cooling. This past summer (from late June to mid Sept) I rode on multiple days that were 85F/30C or more --this is not uncommon in New England USA...
