Because of the keyed lock for the steering. The receiver for the locking tab sits where the steering stop are on the MX. Nevertheless the whole assembly is just screwed onto the frame and probably could be replaced by an assembly for adjustable stops. Michael

If you machine too much off the triple clamp there is enough material there for a threaded hole to mount a screw which would actually give you adjustable steering stops! Michael
