AMA and Electric Motorcycles in AMA races

I have been working on EV stuff for about 20 years now. For anyone interested here are my thoughts on safety related things: 1) Biggest worry is mechanical injury. As a design engineer for the drive system I work together with people assembling, testing, and maintaining the prototypes -- people...

    Anti-Theft?!

Having written the code for this it is really amusing reading this thread. Let's just say most of the guesses are quite poor and some a bit paranoid. Oh well, to be expected.

    Top speed Stark Varg

Here is a dyno run with stock front and rear sprockets.

Why does stark varg not comply to these regs when sold for racing?

Vargs started production before that date. I wasn't there so I can't say for sure if Taddy's bike had a lanyard or not. However, during the media event when the press came to Barcelona the Vargs all had lanyards. It is not difficult to add a lanyard and can be done in half an hour (for Stark...

Why does stark varg not comply to these regs when sold for racing?

this is a kill switch: what you have in your picture is a _lanyard_ You should have requested a lanyard system to stop the wheel spinning. They do not currently sell such a system but the bike can be made to work with one. If there is enough demand I suppose they will produce and sell such a...

Why does stark varg not comply to these regs when sold for racing?

The power button (the red one) is effectively the kill switch. As soon as you press it the bike goes into "neutral" and won't respond to throttle - this is displayed clearly on the LED. If you hold this button for a bit longer (like a second) the bike will turn off. You will hear a "clunk" sound...

    Nice mountain climb video

Haven't seen it posted; my favorite Varg video. Nice scenery and stats at the end. Gave some ideas for software which are in the pipeline.

    Varg Silent Passing Issues

You should post that classic German forklift safety video. Do you know which one I am talking about?

    Bike Protection

Nobody here understands my sense of humor but that doesn't mean I'm gonna stop. WRT protection:

Uh Oh!!!!! Stark guys keep an eye on your pivot mount.

I cannot say for sure; we will have to wait for analysis of failed components. What I did say is that I have seen the bike take repeated abuse in testing. Complete overjumps of tabletops on purpose with the bike landing on completely flat ground. They had to put extra strong wheels on the bike...

An Email to Stark about the "Traction Control"

It takes time and testing to get it right. They will come through with what they promised (and more).

An Email to Stark about the "Traction Control"

Some neat stuff is coming software-wise.

Uh Oh!!!!! Stark guys keep an eye on your pivot mount.

Stark said the bike is going back to Spain for analysis so hopefully they will be able to determine what happened. I have seen it take repeated hard hits in testing so I think it is probably not a design issue but we will see what the analysis points to.

Question about Stark charger 240v adapter: is neutral required?

Ohhhh, now I see from the photos. That 8.2A cannot possibly be measured AC current. The charger does not send AC line voltage or current to CAN bus. Therefore, the bike/phone has no way of knowing if the charger is plugged into 110V or 220V or even what the AC current is. The 8.5A to 8.2A is...

    Certificate of Origin for DMV

I wasn't involved with homologation. I don't think there is an engine number stamped anywhere on the motor/inverter assembly, but I could be wrong.

Question about Stark charger 240v adapter: is neutral required?

The max 10 amps on the phone is battery current, not AC current going into the charger. Below 330V (battery) the charger can deliver 10A. Above 330V the current will be less than 10A because 3.3kW is the limit. The max current on the app was just a quick way to not overload the generator. Does...
