Owner's Review Review after 100 hr from Nick Tomasunas (former MX pro rider)

I let an eBike hater ride my Varg. He came back a believer.

Check your Stark Varg charger plug

It will be easy to tell if you have the good cord. It has a professional molded cap that can't be disassembled while the problematic version has a screw on type. If you get that version, simply take it apart and clean up the connections before using it and you will have no problems.

Electric Cycle Rider Full Size E Dirtbike Shootout - Artic Leopard vs Stark vs Alta vs E&C

I love the regenerative breaking on my Varg. I run about 80% and 52 HP, and hardly have to use the regular brakes on the MX track. I think the regen braking is smoother and doesn't create braking bumps but when it hits them it smoothly tracks them instead of skidding off the top of each one...

    Torque specs

The reference level represents 0 chain deflection, that tells the gauge is in the right place. The first platform above that is the minimum chain slack, and the top platform is the maximum chain slack. Once you set the slack correctly the bike runs quieter with no chain slap.

    Rear tire options

I put a Bridgstone Battlecross X40 on it. Unfortunately, I also had to put it away for the winter after only a few test laps. I'll have to wait until next season to see how it work out.

It goes where your "3 fingers" would go, except it is more precise with the Reference level:

Here is a 3D model of the Varg chain slack gauge I made. Makes it easy to adjust the chain to specifications. Pull the chain tight by pushing down the bottom, and slide the gauge along the swing arm until the reference (0 point) touches. Release the chain and then tighten the chain until it goes...

    Rear tire options

Sorry, I assumed that the use case would be obvious as Motocross since other uses would not be tearing tires apart.

    Rear tire options

I have about 15 hours on my Varg, and about 10% of the knobs on the rear tire have been torn off. Otherwise, the tire is wearing well. Has anyone found replacement tires the hold up better? The stock tires for the MX version are Pirelli Scorpion MX32 110/90-19 Mid Soft.

    New VARG Software Update.

Sadly, it did not include the track feature. Looks the same to me, but I haven't ridden with it yet.

    Varg footpegs and boots.

These are the soles of my Fox Comp 5 boots after 13 hours on the Varg. They are almost cut all the way through. Can anyone recommend boots that can stand up to the overly aggressive Varg footpegs?

Unbreakable brake levers - which ones fit?

After a lot of research I came up with this solution of Flo leavers. Note that you will have to move the perch for the front brake in a bit to clear the throttle. I have not tried out my set up yet on account of a broken thumb, but I think it will work. If you are in Canada, try to get them from...

Check your Stark Varg charger plug

Same here. My plug eventually melted and Stark sent me a replacement of their new version. Much better.

Stark charger only puts out 3amps now

The amps you are seeing is going to the battery at 420 to 450 volts. A typical North American 110V outlet is rated for 15A. So 15×110/420=3.9A max you will see before blowing a fuse.

    New VARG Software Update.

After the announcement I checked for updates every day with no luck. When I finally got the bike out to the track and turned it on, guess what? It wanted to do the update then! So, I did the update and rode off in mode 3. I didn't notice any improvements but this was a track I never had the...

Well, I didn't want the liability but my wife did. It was cheap anyway.

    Insuring electric dirt bikes

I contacted the same guy and he set me up with liability only. He said he couldn't get the fire and theft.

    charging plugs insertion sequence

In my experience it doesn't really matter much. Here are some things to note: 1. The bike knows when the charging cable is connected. 2. If no power is coming in when the charging cable is connected, the bike will indicate a fault with a yellow light. 3. There is a relay click when connecting...
