Debating it for slight range increase, better chasis & Brembo LHRB. Guess I'm curious if anyone updated and was very underwhelmed?
I have a 2024 gen 2 MX with all the mods done that I prefer to ride single track. I purchased it used from a friend for a great price. I was always a dedicated ICE rider. Mostly 250 and 300 KTMs. He really wanted me to try electric!
I loved it so much that I decided to also get a 2025 EX. But only because it was also a crazy good deal!
I copied everything from the MX to make it feel about the same so there is no confusion switching back and forth. My MX took a while to get fully dialed in. The EX was definitely way closer to what I needed as delivered!
So in my case, they are so similar now that I really am equally happy riding either!
But value wise, the EX did not require all the suspension work or changing the rear wheel to 18”.
My MX is a very late gen2 so it already came with most all of the major original growing pains sorted including Brembo brakes but as most know.
If a head light is important enough to you, that also adds additional value to choosing the EX. I also really like the loud horn for passing in races. Not the phone horn but the actual one they provided that connects to a dedicated 12v plug.
I had to install a scooter horn for my MX and it’s not nearly as loud! Maybe I will try another brand but had hoped to stay with a simple battery type to avoid having to figure out how to tap into the 12v at the phone chargers output.
So to answer your question about switching up to a (1.2) . It depends on what your needs are. Both of my bikes have excellent suspension so I’m really not sure if I can tell much difference in the frame stiffness. Also the battery difference is not substantial either. Both bikes require a generator that can fast charge to really be able to ride hard all day if you ride fast. I typically ride with many who are on ICE bikes so to not hold anyone up, I just make sure to re-charge as much as possible during our lunch break or whenever between laps even if just to re-gain say 20%. This is possible for us because we mostly ride 7-14 mile loop’s locally. When I travel to places where we ride all day without returning back to the trucks, I have to leave the Stark at home. I also still have a few ICE bikes that are also well sorted. They had been my favorites but frankly, since the MX and now the EX, my KTMs are mostly just collecting dust. I never would have believed this world happen. I have been riding both 2 and 4 strokes my entire life since 5years old. Now all my buds are starting to take notice and many are even starting to cave after trying my Stark’s. I had 75 hours on the MX since buying the 24 used in July of 2025. I then found a new but used EX that had 1 hr on it. The price was too good to pass on. I’m glad I did because at that price plus way fewer mods required I will just ride both bikes. Anyhow after 10 hours so far, I really can’t say that the EX is a whole lot better but that’s because I spent a lot to make the MX similar to what Stark ended up doing with the EX.
Hope this makes since. I personally think a lightly used late gen2 mx especially if someone has already had the suspension re valved and wheel changed to 18” is a better value for say $8,500 US from Facebook market place or a buddy who is up grading is a better deal than a new EX for nearly $15,000 new out the door. Especially where we all know that before we know it, Stark will break the range nut with battery tech and then we will all be back at this again while the values on current bikes will fall out.
